Hey,
I'm Dirk and currently I live in Lissewege close to Zeebrugge in Belgium.
I was infected withe the G-virus in 93 when I bought my first G a 280 GE SWB. It was originally owned bij IJsboerke who had used it as assistance vehicle for the Paris-Dakar of 85. It was symmylary modified as the race-cars. ( tuned engine, modified suspension and reinforced axles). Consumption was horrible but as I was in the merchant marine I only used it for 4 months in the year.
In 97 participated in the Transylvania Throphy.
Later had a Jeep wrangler but that was a big mistake and resolt it after 6 months to replace it with a 280 ge swb cabrio automatic from 82.
The last aquisition was a 280 ge lwb van of 86 it's a manual.
All the G's are still in my possesion but not used anymore.
The first one is under reconstuction and being modified for challenges. Engine is already replaced with a 500 and auto transmision and chassis is shortened in front and in the back. Radiator should come in the bach and also it is now some kind of pick-up

Cont.
The cabrio is used for spares and also to generate income to build the 500.
The van of 86 is a questionmark. For the moment I do not know if I will keep it for spares or sell it. I have a price in mind but still not sure what to do.
So that is the inventory and I hope later to be able to by myself a diesel for daily us. This will hopefully be in the near future.
Anyway let's see what the futere will bring and I enjoy reading this forum.
Best regards
Dirk

Re: New Member from Belgium

Hi Peter,
In the back she has lost about 50 cm and in the front the chassis has been also shortened. In front she lost the half of the round crossmember. This will together with the radiator in the back give the possibility to mount the front winch closer in. All this and with the new wheels should give above average attack and exit angles. ( Tires are going to be Simex extreme 35*10.5*15)
Regarding the van:
She's from '86 and originally from the south of France. Resulting in very sound chassis and good body. Body could need some repainting but there is no deep rust. Mechanical she's ok. Starts always from the first try even when she has not run for weeks. There are on the other hand some small and not so small things to be done. Alternater needs servicing and exhaust need to be replaced. Also one of the wheel arches ( polyester) needs to be repaired She sits on alu wheels and 31.5*10.5*15 tires ( general grabber at) has run for app. 85 th km.
Price is not set for the moment. If I look on the various site on the net prices vary from 3000 till 18000 Euros. So if sombody is interested please make an offer but also if the offering is less then what I have in mind as minimum I will keep her and she also will end up as organdonor.
Hope this is already some info that helps If needed I can forward some more info and pictures if requested.
Brgds, Dirk

Hopefully I can find some more time to work on it.

I have a question. I lost my copy of the electrical wiring diagram I had of the 280 so was wondering if somebody could help me here. I plan to redo the complete wiring of the car to make it simple and waterproof.
Also still looking for more info on the wiring of the 500 V8
A V8, of 85 did it have one ore two fuelpumps? And were they the same as those in a 280?
Anyway already many thanks in advance for the help and info
Best regards.
Dirk

Re: New Member from Belgium

Hi,
The new shoes are finally in order. The tires Simex 35/12.5/15 are mounted on the rims ( alloys) and are looking fine. Some pictures will follow when I have my camera back.
Also working on the cooling for the moment. Radiator has found a place in the back and will be connected to the waterpump with a hose. For this purpose I have bought a rubber hose Phython NY 15 ( www.ralco-tubings.co.uk )temp rang is from -40° to +110°C (+230°F) working pressure can be 10bar and dia is 38mm.
For the moment this all looks good an I hope I don't have to make to much connections. For the return line I believe it should be possible in one piece. The other line will be an other story.
I hope to find some time this week to finish the cooling and then start on the fuel system. I want the hear the V8 rumble.
Will try to keep you all posted and to get some pictures for an update.
Best regards,
Dirk

Re: New Member from Belgium

Hi all,
Found time and energy to start again on the play-G.
By now also Van and organdonor sold. And bought myself an other G.
This time a diesel one.
She's from 1990 but in good condition. Some small rust spots start to show but nothing mayor.
It's a 300 with autobox and 240000 km.
I hope I can use it for a long time.
Also persuaded my brother to join the G-family.
He bought a 300 d van with autobox and even airo in from 1985.
Will see if I can get pictures of these two vehicles.
Regarding play-g:
Have changed plans and removed the roof. Now it's not a pick-up anymore but a cabrio. Radiator is in the back piping still to sort out.
Next will be fuel system en then trying to run the engine.
If and when this is done intention to remove complete body and have everything painted andn also remove all electric and redo this.
Question:
Can somebody point me in the direction where I can find info about the autobox of the 500sec of 1985 type is W4A040
Will be running 35 inch tires and hope the ratio will cope.
Best regards,
Dc

Re: New Member from Belgium

The 10th of this month will be a day to remember for me.
Finally was able to start the v8 of the playmobil.
Because I have ripped out the complete wiring of the car in a effort to make it more simple and maintenance easy, had some real searching to do.
But as said before mannaged.
Battery switch installed, then main switch to charge system and a push-button to start. Because different colors used in the donor vehicle and the G was is not always easy. Advantage is that now I have more understanding of the system and hopefully this will be handy for the future.
Still a lot of work to do, but step by step I will get there.
For pictures this will be for later. I'm not that handy to get them on-line, so....
Will keep you posted.
Best regards,
Dirk
Ps 19-09-2009 big meeting for G in Belgium will post link.
