Can anyone suggest the most straight forward swap from a normally aspirated diesel engine on a 300GDL 463 auto to a turbo diesel pre-designated mercedes engine without using a turbo modification.
Is there anyone out there that has done something similiar and can recommend someone to take a project like this on.
Any insight and wisdom welcome.
Many thanks

Re: Swapping 603 auto diesel n/a for mercedes TD

Sounds like a mission to me??

I too have thought about this type of mod, the main problem being that most turbo diesel engines from MB vehicles have immobilisers fitted (DAS1/2). Not only would the complete engine harness and ECU be required, but also part of the dash/main wiring loom and immobiliser control unit/key chip.
I am sure that someone out there has fabricated their own looms to do the job without trying to graft a factory loom etc into a different vehicle?Do-able, Just not particularly straightforward???
If I am wrong please set me straight.

Regards
Peter

The most readily available engine is the sprinter 2.9l 5cylinder om602 turbo. Limited electronics and reliable. Sprinters are relativly common but the engines would be well used by the time they are put out to pasture.

The 3l 6 cyl om606 24v is in the E class mid 90s, but has more electronics.
The 6cyl om603 turbo was produced for the E class but not in uk as lhd only. That would be a good one but you would need to source it from Europe
