new owner of a 290gdt
Hi from greece, :D
I bought few months ago a 290gdt, preowned by Greek Police. It has around 490.000 km! no records and without any other point of its history. So far the main problem comes from its electric. The fuse box was destroyed and I am truing to find how to connect the right cable to the right fuse!!!!!
Any advise were can I find the electric diagram of the fuse box? Is there anyone who install an A/C?
Many thanks to everyone for your distribution
Angelo

Z11 export special version, for roads in bad condition
Interesting but what on earth is Z11 - aren't all Gs capable of dealing with this?
First time I have seen the bench seats with single occupancy
That's an awful lot of mileage for a 1999 - I guess the police actually drove this one unlike those who would just park it at the nearest donut shop....
Z11 maybe? spring rates, dampers, for rough roads, knowing how easy it is to bust standard springs that is.
Or is it extra underbody protection/coating for stone chip damage/
OR both ?
Marcus
Z11 is an execution specially developed to compliment Greek police driving techniques ... Ha ha ha ha :-))
I have finally heard form M/benz, as ever they are they have been helpful without helpng.
They say that the information could be got from their website serivce. This is true but there is also a charge for the service.
Charges are shown on the website. Simpily, select on the line, copy, and paste the whole line in the top

Who's a clever boy then, :D
re the extra thick undercoat
, and I suppose I could claim the ride height too as I mentioned spring rates
Cheers

Angele kalimera !
With regards to A/C installation, there were three kits available on the 460, from Diavia, BEHR and the original Mercedes. The first two use a fan and vent assembly which is fitted at the bottom of the dashboard console so that the cool air comes only from those vents only and not from the standard dashboard vents therefore aoiding mixing cold air with outside warm air. These are old kits which you may find used.
Another option is to use some of the Mercedes parts as were used on the 461 G-wagen and get used parts for the A/C compressor and its engine mounting and do a mix and match job.
Also the same engine with all the A/C assembly was installed on the Ssangyong Korando/Musso from which you can get some parts.
Not speaking from experience but I understand that when installing the factory AC as an aftermarket you are faced with a number of problems
1) price
2) difficulty to install - supposedly the entire dash and much of the engine needs to be removed to make it fit
3) there was something else.... now what was it.... something about efficieny when actually running I think...
Now is that the efficiency,
ie how much fuel consumed vis-a-vis the cold air output
or effectiveness
ie by how many degrees does it reduce the air temperature
regardless of fuel consumed
:D
c.f. like using a sledge hammer to smash a nut, effective but not efficient
P.S.
Would you know my mother was a teacher of English? ( she failed absymally with my spelling though )
Cheers,
Marcus
Angele, the following link will take you to a Cyprus company called Koutsoullis who are experts in fitting A/C and refrigeration units. There is a .pdf list with those cars for which they have available kits. The G-wagen is not on that list but you could give them a call and ask as they have kits from the 190 to the Sprinter and Actros.

They fitted a Diavia A/C unit on my G many years ago which I've replaced with the factory A/C kit. Unfortunately I don't have the old parts.
Hope this helps !
My chassis No is 4613361x116634.
Thanks for your help
