So following on G Spots post about the white Cabrio for sale in Japan I found myself procrastinating form work and browsing the Japanese auction sites.

These are just some of my conclusions:

1) They really don't hold there value very well. I mean £21K for a 2004 G500? A 1998 G320 for £8K?

2) They love their limited editions. There are a good number of G500 Classics for sale....

3) The Japanese G Owner's love their bling

4) They love Brabus, Lorinser, ART, AMG...

5) And what's with the window things?

Re: Idle thoughts on Japanese Gs

The Jap market is based on high turnover and thats why cars dont hold their value...not even Mercs though slightly higher...which is good if you import their cars.

Just look at the amount of cars that go through the Auctions. One site my friend knows about says the turnover is about 40,000 cars a week. Thats only one auction place. Thats why log books and service records are so important as they prove the car has been looked after.

There are not many used car lots over there. Auctions are where you buy cars.

Names are important to the Japanese. Its in their culture...so names like Brabus, Lorinser, ART, AMG hold their value a little better... its a name.

Would be good to hear if anyone here has imported one and knows what hassle it is. The prices certainly seem tempting but why on earth can't they leave the dash alone!! There isn't one I've seen without a messed up dash (holes for satnav/tv/video/etc)

Go back and try again Martin Just do a search using S68683 and you will then search IMPORTED Cars ... then BENZ ..all 900 of them . Then fine your search to 460 or 463 and you will see photos. You will find them

Re: Idle thoughts on Japanese Gs

If you are looking at an auction page,is it possible to know if the engine is diesel or petrol by the size alone ?

Re: Idle thoughts on Japanese Gs

I understand all the diesels ever fitted were 240, 250, 270, 290, 300, 350 and 400. Of those, only the 300 is shared with the petrols (1990-1994).
Though according to other sources, the only Gs imported into Japan are petrol (Mortinson will verify!) so you can save the effort...

Re: Idle thoughts on Japanese Gs

Ive seen 4 diesels so far on differant sites. But they are rare.
But its a bummer that petrol and diesel had the same size in the 3000 as I see this number on the one site that doesnt state what fuel engine. So I dont know what fuel. Ive seen the 2700 and 3000 only so far mentioned.

There is also a G320 Petrol and a G320 CDI.

Re: Idle thoughts on Japanese Gs

OK...so youve seen enough of Jap G's but I thought I would post this as its a 2007 Cab,not many of those made. I was talking to the first G importer to the US and he said less than 40 of these are made...

If companies can afford to ship sh*te Hi-lux's and £5000 Pajero's by the bucket load there must be a way of getting a G here quite cheaply, I will make some enquiries there is a company near here called Japanese connection that do that all the time....
