thats cool. we used to cover the rads on the enduro bikes with tape for the start of an event in low temperatures so that the engine heated up quicker, maybe thats the use?

Probably left permanently duing the winter - rather than just for when parked up against the snow.

A trick that a lot of people do in Canada is stick a piece of cardboard infront of the rad and leave it there all winter. During the winter its so cold that you don't really need to have the airflow to the rad.

But how does that work - does the chain make it "roll up" like a set of blinds?

Are you sure thats not an emergency wind break for slowing down from high speeds!!

Would be good for water crossings too!

Towdogs,
What are or were the two external pipes for, some sort of coupling on the ends of ? was this for a hydraulic winch ?

Marcus, the external pipes are for a heater that plums into the G water system to pre-heat during periods of extreme cold .

Neat, I did think that such systems were mostly electrial, this one simply plugs into the domestic central heating !
