Hi all,

Chasing down a problem re. starting after a pre-MOT underbody wash, I have discovered that my SWB 463 GES isn't firing on No.6 cylinder.

I have this morning fitted a new distributor, leads, plugs and rotor arm (Not in that order!!). When checking out firing discovered no change in engine note when I pulled off cylinder 6 lead.

The plug is getting a good spark (Tested).

I am now assuming a fuelling issue. ???

Anyone with a similar experience can lend a hand\idea?

She runs lovely on the 5 tho' ....can't wait to see how she goes when all 6 are banging. :D

Cheers

Hi Marty try the fuel injector for no.6 cylinder if you have spark it must be fuel..does it clear itself on a run or when hot ????? no loss of water I trust !! rgds

Re: Not firing on all cylinders!!

Hi Peter,

When you say "try?"

Looks a bit like the top of a diesel injector, but loath to slacken it off, not thrilled about petrol spraying everywhere!!

No loss of water.

Hard to tell if it resolves itself.... the 5 cylinders seem quite smooth anyhow!!

Will give you a bell tomorrow,

Cheers

Re: Not firing on all cylinders!!

After swapping around the supposedly defective injector, I was no further on.

Very frustrating.

Took the air-filter housing off and discovered an air "nozzle" located on the intake manifold immmediately behind no.6 injector housing. as there was no pipe attached I stuck my finger over it + happy days she started to fire on all 6!!

Have fabricated up a stop as you can see from the picture.

Only question now is.... where should the vacuum from here be feeding?

Anyone with the same engine care to trace their pipe?

Cheers

Thanks Hot!!

Shame that, the suction is phenomenal...seems a waste of a good vacuum!!.

Anyone else got anything different?

Re: Not firing on all cylinders!!

Over voltage protection relay - was a problem on my 300 e I guess its simlar tho it was a north american one - should be located next to the main electronic control box thingy has a fuse in it.

Also a very difficult thing to detect that can cause miss fire is the electronic spark control module (can't remember proper name) - you need to swap it with a good one - see if you can borrow one sale or return from a scrappy - I had to live with miss firing for ages untill I found that that was the problem....after finally fixing it was rear ended out of existance.
good luck

Re: Not firing on all cylinders!!

Is yours a manual? the vacuum for the auto box on my G is in the location you described so maybe it is supposed to be capped off when used with a manual gearbox (Hot 66's car is manual) Just a thought

Re: Not firing on all cylinders!!

i have the same engine but auto, and i can verify that it IS used on autos (checked today while changing my diff fluid), i put a new hose there after the old one came off, and without it plugged in, the upshift was very rough (except under full throttle), so it seems it is unused on the manuals, but in auto guise it tells the tranny how hard or soft to (up)shift, by measuring the engine vacuum

Thanks for all the replies guys.... pretty sure it is what you say... as this car is a manual.

She now drives and runs beautifully.

Just back from another Stateside trip.... NO G's in either Boston or Orlando??!!
