Thinking of importing a G into Australia
Hi All.
This has been a dream for a while. There are only run down and abused G's over here...so i wont be getting one from here. Why dont people look after them...its beyond me.
Anyway, the laws over here are that I can only import them myself if they are no later than Dec 31/1988. I have someone who will comply it. Thats not a problem.
Requirements: Diesel,Auto. Prefer LWB.Do they come with turbo that 'early'. I notice a lot of people here modify their G,so maybe thats an option.
I like what Mamin did to his. God that looks good! But its manual,so its no good unless I can put an auto in it.
But I dont know how much power you lose with an auto compared to a manual and how much of a problem it will be to put an auto into a manual.Losing a little power doesnt worry me.
It wont be a speed machine, but Im used to diesels.
Thanks for any input.

Gee, you really know how to abuse your mates!
Only run-down and abused vehicles over here! You should know how thin skinned we Aussie's are!
Seriously though, don't confuse used with abused. Many of our AGOA members keep their G's in tip top mechanical condition but the same people may also choose to use there vehicles for the purpose they were intended. Yes some are run-down but there were only 159 G's sold here officially and most of those were sold in 1983 (100 of them). Now these are not young vehicles by any stretch and I don't think it is fair to blame owners if their trucks are a little bit frayed around the edges at that age.
Merv's your man in the UK. He has been itching to sell some G's to us down here. I'm sure he'll chip in and make you an offer you can't refuse.
Good luck with the hunt.
John
Hi Kevin,
I was only muckin' with you.
I have an Australian Auto from 1985 and a Manual UK Import from 1984 (and I wouldn't say I was an exception)!
I thought that you must have been one of the people from NSW that had been in touch with me regarding purchasing a G. I have two people at the moment. Have you checked out our web pages at www.agoa.org.au?
Send me an Email via the address on the site and we will see what we can do to help you. Otherwise Merv at the G Class Centre or one of the other stalwarts of the GWOA will help you find a good one in the UK, I'm sure.
Regards
John Kenny
No Offence intended John.
Ive driven 3 diesel toyotas into the ground with over 500,000 k's each.
One can do a lot of K's yet look after them.
I live in Sydney and all 7 Ive seen over the last 5 years wernt looked after.Im sure you are one of the rare ones.
But what Ive seen has made me look elsewhere.
Did you get your here,or was it imported from the UK?
Cheers,Kevin.
