I have just typed in my chassis number into the Russian website and have been studying the option codes my G came with.

Does anyone have photos of the following: ?

Here is the full list the website showed , which I assume is all the options (standard & optional) my car came with ? The last 2 are a bit puzzling as my car has full black leather.

Re: option codes

I dnt understand that list for mine, like yours it shows items that my G didnt have????

did you note that the wheels stated above were 6" light alloys on wider axle with arches and not the alloys on your G which were called wide alloys and not light alloys(which were the narrow ones)

Some MB codes have had two uses over the years.

In your GWagen's case:

E51 means "short-range interference suppression", and not "bicycle rack, alustyle (double) (с 1978)"

E43 means "trailer plug socket, thirteen-pin", and not "cassette holder (с 26.06.1997)"

U46 means "leather seat cover" and not "rub strip all-round (с 26.09.1996)"

X59 means "central locking system" and not "leather, designo-dark green, two-color (с 1978)"

As for X03, this is the only meaning known to me and I don't know why is it shown in your datacard.

The full balck leather is made up to two codes, U46 (leather) and V18 (interior in black)

Not particularly. The options on your G are quite standard on a UK-specs 463.

Some options that are virtually (or actually) inexistent in the UK (for an early 463)

Webasto additional heater
Heated seats
Rockinger tow kit
Two-part rear bumper
Becker radios (if any, they were dealr-fitted Blaupunkts)
Tropical roof

All 463s came in the UK with the following as standard (as opposed to Germany and other markets):

ABS
6x16" alloy wheels
Flared wheel arches
Front diff lock (optional in Switzerland)

Well I have both seen and driven a 1992 300GE SWB and LWB 463 with a Webasto and Heated Seats. Strangely they were both the same colour bronze.

I'm not sure what the tropical roof is - but if it is the fabric roof that pulls back to expose the interior (not quite a convertible) then I have seen one of those on a RHD too but can't remember if it was a 463 or 460. But then I seem to recall that it was made for an Englishman in Africa.

Not sure what two part bumper is.

Definitely have seen 463s without flared wheel arches in UK.

As far as the Webasto and the heated seats, I am not saying that nobody ticked the right boxes when they ordered their early 463s. I am saying that very few people did (specially in the Webasto's case).

As for the others:

I attach a picture of a tropical roof shown on a 460 (it is so rare that I can't find a picture of a 463 with it fitted). As you can see is a white, double roof that leaves an air chamber between it and the other one to reduce heat inside the car.

Picture attached of a Rockinger tow kit and a two-part bumper.

As for an early 463 without the flared wheelarches, well Max I think it's time to stop bluffing and show your cards! : Show me the pics, 'cause the flared wheel arches where standard equipment on all 463 sold by MBUK.

Re: option codes

Now as an old man young Tom, I might be getting my decades, let alone years , mixed up, but I do remember the fashion for "tar macadam" or vinyl roof coverings, which I think would have been around the early eighties, wot when I larned to drive.
Dont know if yours would have been official or a DIY job ?
Cheers,
Marcus
PS
I also remember Vinyl seats/hot days/and shorts, ouch !

I don't walk around with a camera cataloguing every single G I see!!!

As for the 463 with the tropical roof - there are pics on someone in Dubai or Jakarta with one on Benzworld.

The roof I was referring too was a vinyl roll roof which rolls back probably 60% or so of the roof. Kind of like on an old Citroen.

This must be the one! 'Cause I don't think that they made that many!

Definitely the black vynil roof is an aftermarket addition

I was obviously referring to standard equipment and options offered/ordered in 463 GWagens imported buy MBUK (early 463s) as per my posting:

Of course you have seen 463s without flared wheelarches in the UK. One such G is the one I own, but it is LHD and originally sold in Germany. But it is a fact that all 463s offically imported by MBUK had alloy wheels (6x16" standard and 7x15" as option) and all came with the flared wheelarches, though you could still order a 463 in Germany with the 6x16" and no wheelarches. But this was NOT the case in the UK.

As for the tropical roof, yes, you could have seen it on a G in Dubai, Jakarta, Daar-el-Salam, Timbouktu or Osaka, but I was commenting on the UK only.

I would naturally not expect you to "walk around with a camera cataloguing every single G" you see, but I would expect anyone to dispute a statement of facts with hard evidence, not with comments such as "Definitely (I) have seen ...."

I naturally stand to be corrected but in the meantime, I attach an excerpt of the 1990 UK-spec GWagen datasheet which shows that the flared wheelarches were standard.

Trusting that these comments will ruffle no more feathers than strictly necessary, I remain, faithfully yours, etc, etc

lol @ mortinson, your post is a classic...you must miss this every now and then!

i never knew those wider wheel arches/fenders existed before the G55k came on the market...i thought they were all the same width until 2005..interesting! this must be the one hus55 speaks off..mortinson please keep your old catalogues and stuff in a safe/fireproof place, it would be a pity if they go walkies or catch fire or something!

Sorry, er, I forgot about a very important option that came in all MBUK oficially imported GWagens:

Steering wheel in the RH side of the vehicle!

Re: option codes

respect mortinson :!: :!:

thats the G,the memories come flooding back my friend

i have a photo album back home,with pics i'd taken since 1984.... :!:

the one at earls court had black graphics on it but the wolfrace wheels etc were all the same.

as for the flared aches issue, you are right :!: :!:

i think that slow sales in the uk caused mbuk to change marketing policies here and including flared arches made the G look wider(remember the first M3 beemer with flared arches!!)and thus more agressive.

no offense mortinson but in the 80's a G without arches looked puny in the eyes of many...

i think here in the uk image and looks mean more than function, where as in germany the G was brought for a purpose and arches were not a must.
