SPARK LEADS ETC.
Hi guys,i intend on updating (renewing)the spark leads, rotor arm and distributor cap as i notice that my G cuts out a bit on acceleration from standstill and low revs when running on lpg.
i have already brought a set of ngk iridiums and plan on changing all electrical leads to the engine. Now my question is,is there any other place to buy these leads accept eurocar parts.is there a better quality lead giving advantages to engine efficiency?
rgds-hussein.
Beru from Eurocarparts are petty much OEM quality at discount price. German and Swedish might be cheaper but stick with the Beru/Bosch brands
Word of warning get yourself a pair of spark plug pliers http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=16989&MAN=Draper-Spark-Plug-Boo... to remove the plug caps if you pull them off by had you will probably pull the wires out and destroy them.
I dont know if the 280 110 engine is happy with fancy plugs but I use standard Beru/ngk, but the later 300e engines are not meant to like anything other than the standard plug (or so I was told by an old time MB engine mechanic)
lpg will always exgaggerate any fault in your electrical parts, do this process but I never managed to get my 280 100% on gas.
Huss,
What sort of temp. is it switching over at?
If the ambient air temperature is low and it’s switching over before the engine is up to full working temperature it could well run roughly on gas. You can not enrich it on lpg to help cold running as per petrol.
What type of conversion is it? Single or multi point injection.
Sounds very much like it is switching over too soon. The regulator (round device maybe 150mm in dia. ) needs to be warmed by the engine coolant. The slowing down suggests the regulator is freezing.
Try switching over manually when the engine coolant is say around 40 deg. Celsius. Suggest you do this whilst on a light or closed throttle.
Hus,
Without knowing your system it’s pretty difficult to figure what is wrong. From my knowledge this type should not switch immediately to gas when on auto. It should be set to switch over when the coolant reaches around 40 Celsius and the throttle closed. The fact that it does not do this seems to suggest either a fault or incorrect installation.
I know of a very knowledgeable guy who has fixed other peoples bodges but he’s based in Chester, not much use to you I guess. Problem being there re so many so called experts who have jumped on the lpg bandwagon, you just need to find someone from personal recommendation. Having said that yours sounds like a basic open loop single point system so it should be pretty easy to set up.
Good news Hus. Always start with the basics. LPG must have perfect electrics.
thanks for the tip earnest,i will get a set of those.
as for the ngk iridiums, shakir has them on his 280GEL which also runs on lpg and believe me shak's G is livelier than mine! i think the sparks work better with lpg,but i also reckon they are more efficient petrol aswell.
