I just did a complete ovehaul of my automatic gearbox and engine 617A, and some people tell me that putting on 35" tire's is wearing down the engine very fast, at least way faster than lets say 32" begause of the ratio diverance.

I it realy that bad??

I think that it very much depends on your driving style: if you tend to abuse your G at low speeds, your engine will probably suffer more than if you tend to do it at high speeds... but then again one can argue that cruising at 55 mph your engine will be much more relaxed than with the smaller wheels.

ok mortinson, but will he not need to push the G to reach that speed, which will eventually strain the engine??or would you say that because he runs a 617a or(280 hint, hint!!)he should not worry too much.

Re: 35" bad for the engine??

Cant figure how it would affect engine life adversly, vehicle is effectively over-geared, ie bigger tyres giving a higher roadspeed for same engine revs.
Therefore, may need to slip the clutch a fraction more when pulling away from standstill, and engine may not be able to pull top gear on a incline, so change down, ie keep the engine revs sensible/keep the engine in it's "comfort zone". Ok there is perhaps a slightly higher rolling resistence in the "grippy" wide tyre, but this should not be sufficient to knacker the engine.
I would understand if one had geared down, and therefore had to over rev the engine to achieve suitable roadspeed.
Hope that makes sense,
Marcus
Oh I should blush, It's an AUTOMATIC gearbox
so bugger slipping the clutch,
and the Auto box should be set up to operate in the engines "comfort zone", so is it constantly running in a lower gear, 3rd ? because it will not pull a higher gear ? 4th ?, hence overrevving ?
