I will be receiving some por 15 paint to apply to the chassis and other black parts like panhard rods and anti rollbar etc next week.Due to no time in the day and no workshop at night a friend of mine will be applying the rust treatment for me at a very good rate of labour!
I was speaking to the man at FROST'S who supply por15 and he advised me to wire brush loose rust and paint straight on providing the chassis is steam cleaned.I will post pix once the job is done.What i was impressed about was the fact that once applied there is no need to apply waxoyl or any other protection to the chassis and other areas painted.I also ordered a small pot of silver to use on the floor plan channels where minor rust has just started.(THE MORE RUST THE,BETTER THE POR 15 REACTION!!)
I hope it works as hoped and you guys can follow.rgds

Re: POR 15'ING THE CHASSIS AND UNDERSIDE.

I've been waiting 2.5 months for rustbullet.co.uk to get some paint back in stock .. cheaper than POR15, about same performance, only 2 coats of the same paint with no overcoating for UV required, nice silver colour if you get the automotive version. Does not require special thinners.. but I now just through the paint brush away as it is a pig to get off (and off anything else).

They are promising next week.. but it seems a better bet than POR15.

I would still Dinotrol over the top afterwards .. light wax everywhere then black gunk underneath.

Called Rustbullet

UK = www.rustbullet.co.uk

US = www.rustbullet.com

silver finish stuff is Rustbullet Automotive

Designed for F15 wingtips as the paint was getting rubbed off but found to be good for sorts of other places where you want a tough water proof layer which happens to lock on the rust like POR-15 does... but needs less prep and care .. plus they have actually done salt spray tests and will show themselves against the competition so you have a hope that it works .. compared to Hammerite it is night and day.

Rustbullet back in stock at www.rustbullet.co.uk .. 1 US gallon £85 .. not cheap but go do the maths on POR15 and then think of how many times Hammerite has reignited in rust :cry:

Re: POR 15'ING THE CHASSIS AND UNDERSIDE.

3 products Hammerite (called Rust cap in USA), POR15 and Rustbullet

Hammerite can reignite in rust sometimes easily.

POR15 is more expensive than Rustbullet.. but both are expensive relative to Hammerite.

Test results from a salt spray test of these and other paints
