Boy am I glad to be driving an old ( well pre 2001 anyway ) "G", just back from the car tax office, chat was we could be looking at £1800.00/annum for highest CO2 band, though not specifically targeting 4 by 4's, based on CO2 emissions.

OUCH

Marcus

PS

So who wants to buy an 1989 then, with brand new NI reg incl ?

Ah well I axed as they say, cut off was 1st Jan 2001, as CO2 figs were not issued for vehicles before this date, therefore pre 2001 veh are flatrated ?at £175.00, So I presume even Ian's 9 mile/galleon 560 is only £175.00

Re: Re road Tax increases

at what age does it start at
or is it just based on co2 fallout

would be be able to get at better deal on tax if we started using ribena juice (red) or turtle juice (green) from down my end lol

or would they just start getting the cell ready for another revenue dodger

Re: Re road Tax increases

this should mean desirable older cars ( like G's) should hold their value well :)

Yes sir,

My very thoughts indeed,

Mind you more with the 1999 models rather than the 1989 ones

Sob

I will try and take photos tomorrow, hopefully it will be a bit brighter.

Cheers,

Marcus

Re: Re road Tax increases

No, Shakir,
yet another persistent wistful misunderstanding, it was ( I understand ) set at 25 years old by the then Conserative ? Government, except Labour then set 31st Dec 1972 as a permenant "cutoff" date.
Cheers anyway,
Marcus
EDIT
I stand corrected Brar Bear, but why/how did they pick such an irrational date ?

I do wonder about the foreign plates. you see all the cars with plates from Dubai etc in town, they just look like a black squiggle on a white plate. surely the police never check these? i mean whats the delta foxtrot etc for that!

Re: Re road Tax increases

Sorry but I think you'll find the cut off date was 31st January 1973,not that the extra month will do any of us any good.

it is the 1st January 1973 and the date is 'manufacture date' not registration date. My 1973 Porsche 911 2.4S was manufactured the 1st week January 1973 so misses the tax free status by 7 days or so

If a car was manufactured Dec 1972 but not registered until July 1974 ( for example it had been stood on a dealers forecourt) it would still be tax free.

from here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/TaxationClasses/Taxatio...
"Old vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973 (historic vehicles)

All vehicles except buses and lorries used commercially, that were constructed before 1 January 1973 may tax in the 'historic vehicle' tax class.
