here are some photos of the engine with the new air filter I just fitted, besides saving me a load of weight in the engine bay and giving me a clearer view of the steering rods, I think it has given me better engine response, and possibly an extra 1/2 mpg..

The filter even matches my upholstery :)

Next job is to replace the viscous fan with an electric one.. anyone know which ones fit easily? Kenlowe seems to be the best make.

I did the same mod with a K & N about the same size on my 280 I used to have, definatley made a difference to the power and mpg. Also the original metal bucket airfilter is overkill unless you are going accross the sahara! It still sucks the air from the exhaust manifold side and then takes it through a metal pipe right accross the engine so I was going to get some heatshields to make it even more powerful with the cooler air.

I got it from my local parts/tuning shop in canterbury.
Chaucer motor factors

No makers mark and it was £35, I just bought the biggest one I could find that had a 80mm/3" rubber flange on it.

I originally wanted a bolt on unit to mount on top of the injection system, but realised that it would be too tight under the bonnet and opted to keep the air pipe over the engine.

just done this conversion, my little g seems a little perkier now. £30 from halfords for a 78mm throated filter.
