seals on front swivel hubs..................
not sure of there correct name, but they are the ones that u fill up half way with grease! one is bleeding lots of grease and is was wondering does anyone know the part numbers for a 460-230ge and are they split to aid easy installation?

Hi Simon if you have a fax number I can send you from the MB manual an exploded view of the front axle...if you have any bearing wear the whole hub assembly will rock ...get the wheel of the ground... grip the tyre top and bottom 12 o'clock and six o'clock... pull and push your arms... if there is any significant movement changing seals will not solve the problem..if the spherical ball that hub swivels on is pitted this will reduce the life of new seals..
Hi Simon Suggest before you undo the ring at the back of the hub smear the swivel face with a liberal coat of petroleum jelly (vaseline) this is the greatest thing for rejuvenating rubber. leather or most synthetic wiper seals..jack the front wheels off the ground.. run the engine and turn the steering side to side...repeat a few times and if the vaseline takes on a browny hue then you have a mixture if water and grease in the hub....there are three split rings behind the flange you can see at the back of the hub items 71.74.83. in section 33.530 of the microfiche plates for the axle.I can fax this detail to you rgds
I have just fitted these parts ma460 331 01 08 ma460 331 0080 you will need to remove most of the parts around this area!! if you like PM me with your land line number and i will go through it with you if it helps

hi theres no play in the wheels, think the seals are just knackered i think they must be the original one so 22 years old, one of my swivels had a little rough spot but ive used a diamond/oil stone to polish that out so one has a little rip from that.
