m110 engine number
Does anyone know where on a 280 m110 engine the engine number is stamped?
I am about to embark on a change to a lovely motor from a coupe (more bhp !!!!!) and MB are being bloo*y awkward about ordering gaskets :x
Thanks
On the RHS as you look at it from the front under the distributor. There is a flat part which has the number on it. It is the top of the block where the head joins.
What gaskets are you after. Neat conversion
Jonnyboy, this a very good conversion. Just one or two things to remember. Some people on here who done it have experienced heat problems. Not so much the engine itself overheating, but rather the underbonnet temeperatures and in particular heat off the exhaust manifold.
Key is to carry over the new engine WITH its fuel system. When combining the high compression engine with the fueling of the G, you end up with a lean-running engine which results in extreme high exhaust gas teperatures. The 280GE also has a far more restrictive intake system, so best to get onto a rolling road soon as possible after the transplant. or even just a simple gas analyzer will help. Good Luck. It is a very worthwhile and otherwise very easy conversion.
Would have thought the gaskets to be the same as what you have... :?
The engine came complete out of the coupe inc fuel distributor, ecu etc etc, thinking I should be okay?
Yes, that should be fine. If after doing it in this fashion you still have heat problems, you may have to resort to fibreglass wrap, reflective stick-on stuff on the bodywork or even just palin old heat shielding. Just thinking that maybe airflow underbonnet probably less than in the coupe...
palin
Sorry typo - though i like the man - it was meant to read "plain"
Thanks for that, I'll have a look. Only after the sump, exhaust manifold & rocker cover gaskets, but I've also noticed some weepiness around the p/steering pump and I was asking the dealer whether there was a repair kit or seals available?
He was just being awkward I guess, silly really cos ECP and GSF don't need chassis numbers normally :(
