Are Pre-purchase inspections usually recommended when buying a G ? I'm pretty experienced with old cars but I'm also experienced at the heart ruling the head

Just want to make sure i end up with a G that will serve me for years to come

Re: Pre-Purchase inspections

The best way is just to and see it. Walk around it, touch every panel, take your time and look thoroughly. Say to yourself, I will take 1 hour to do this.
Then take it for a drive. Definately make sure you get to see the vehicle with a stone cold engine. If the seller has nothing to hide, then he/she would understand. Starting from cold should be easy and trouble free with a smooth running engine. Give the seller £20 for fuel if you must, but take it for an extended drive and pay attention to how the gearbox shifts, engine pulling smoothly, noises, smoke, clunks, paly in steering, etc etc. Also make sure you take it up to the legal limit/70mph and check for vibrations.
Of course, if money isn't an issue, you should go for a car with full service history.
A G that has been cared for no expense spared is really what you want and will stand out from the rest. Trust me, you'll just know when you see and drive it. May be more expensive to buy but far cheaper over your first lets say 3 years of ownership alone.

Re: Pre-Purchase inspections

When I buy a car s/h I always let the owner drive initially so I can concentrate on strainge noises& clunky shifts and not on the traffic and getting lost in a strange place. Then I drive it.

Re: Pre-Purchase inspections

If you put your location in your profile you may well find someone on here who would come along to any potential purchase. An impartial opinion is well worth it, could stop the heart over head decisons.

Don’t worry I wasn’t being an anorak. If you find anything in the north west/north wales or midlands drop me a pm if you want me to tag along. I quite like tyre kicking, especially if it’s not my money :D .

Make sure you check the Buying Advice Guides. It will give you the tips to look out for when buying an older G.
