Lost Key.
1985 Diesel 460
25 years that key has been with her, I have it 25 days and I've lost it!! B******S!!.
Anyone got a smart idea to acquire a new ignition key from Mercedes?
Is it possible from a chassis no.?
Ignition switch and spare keys anyone?
Cheers
unless age impinges on the process new keys from mercs come off vin number......
but you have to show log book in your name, and drivers licence.
and hope that the locks never went wonky over the years and got changed for a new set!!!!
I have also found that ordering a new key from Mercedes in the UK is actually cheaper than having a copy done in you local shop: £ 4.20 + VAT I paid in January 2003.
Just follow the steps described by Mark
As a locksmith/carpenter in my previous guise I can make one for you if all else fails but would have to have the barrel sent to me :?
Bit of a palaver but the offers there
By sheer coincidence I'm off down the dealers today to pick up a new key for my '83 460.Cost is £14 inc VAT it took 5 days from germany, you will need your V5 and a photo ID driving licence or passport.
Top class guys, Will keep the Forum informed if this replacement mechanism remains valid (I have concerns due to the vehicles age)
Thanks for the offer too Nic, you must have been writing at the same time as me...!!!
