auto box ,617a,nude woman!

I have a 89 lwb. 460gd with a 4speed auto box which is great because it takes strain out of making It move a little faster. Living in the vale of York (no hills) the normally aspirated five pot is adequate. but once you attach a 2-3 tonne trailer overtaking and slight gradients are a challenge .I am hoping to import a used 617a engine from America where there seems to be a plentiful supply. Having studied this site long and hard I understand a bit of creative work with the exhaust is required. However will a617a fit strait onto 4 speed auto? Does it require a different radiator? Also has anyone else imported parts from the US? Any advice and wisdom gratefully received

I understand that a little bit more of creative work is needed to fit that engine in a RHD GWagen, because the steering system is right where the inlet manifold with the turbo is. Bill Moss has done this already, talk to him he'll be able to help.

Hi the 617a hjas been fitted with either auto or manual t'missions... get one from a previous auto vehicle. to get maximum effect from the turbo you need to run the entire exhaust system with as wide a bore as possible..if you look at the Peugeot 405 Turbo d exhaust and then a normally aspirated one you will see what is needed. from the turbo Exhaust gases outlet maintain the same bore piping to the tailpipe outlet. eye have a 617a engine and manual g.box sitting in the workshop waiting for a "good" host vehicle rgds.
