Well, it's only a 230 GE with an automatic gearbox in a G bodywork, not the best setup for a dragster!
Ummm, I think you'll find that is precisely how they were designed to be driven. In those days they used off-the-shelf Mercedes car engines (in terms of tune) in the G's and what power/torque there was tended to peak quite a long way up the rev range. It is only more recently that G's have come with loads of low-down grunt and a nice flat torque curve so you don't have to rev the nuts off them to get any performance.
Bearing in mind that this is a Swiss Army G and soldiers sometimes get shot at, so want to get away out of it fairly quickly, it seems a perfectly reasonable way to drive it. Still, one does wonder when a Swiss soldier was last shot at in anger? :? Do they ever do exercises with the Americans, I wonder?
