I am stuck in Paris, Malesherbes. I have a broken front axle, broken rear coil spring, broken shock, no brakes, cracked cylender head and a few other things. At this rate our African trip seems a bit to optimistic.

I am looking for info to get the car home or anywhere in the UK, trains, truck, etc. Even someone to come and get me at a price.

If I cant ship it Ill have to fix it, then ill need info on parts, where to get etc.

Anyone got Guidos number in Germany for me please.

Thanks guys
Christo

Re: HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

Christo,

What a tail of woo! Sorry to hear it.

Can you be more explicit? Spring and shock no big deal, i would assume still drivable. Why no brakes though? No vacuum pump/assistance or just no brakes?

Also what’s up with the front axle? I’ve managed to get a LR home by pulling out broken half shafts, don’t know if that can be done on a G though.

Cracked cylinder head. Is it totally knackered or just using some water?

How about joining the AA / RAC? I know people who have done that after the event and got away with it.

Christo sorry to hear about all this mess,What the hell struck your G? :?
As Russ said, Springs, shock are no big deal.

What's your front axle problem? is the half shaft broken? if yes, u can dismantle the broken shaft pieces and run with only one shaft, no problem!

The engine: is it still runnable? or u're facing heat issues? if the engine is still runnable, there is a kind of glue/gum that can help u weld it to get back home.
Sorry to hear about all this. I unfortunately live south of france, wish i could help more, if u need any help for example to translate technical terms if u might go to a mechanic in france give me a call 0033678408665

Keep us in touch!

Re: HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

The brakes is just the cylender on rear wheel, I'll get the parts and fix it, Suspention is drivable, the cylender head is ok if kept under 50. The only problem is my right front wheel. I suspect it is a broken axle, it could be a bearing, I haven't got a tool to open it up. There is play on the wheel and axle and it gets smoking hot after a couple of miles with oil dripping out.

I did't even abuse the car, only on road, never more than 60. It was just a dump of a car.

Smoking hot.

Sounds like brake calliper seized – dripping oil will be grease melting and getting past seals.

Re: HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

I drove her home, with a lot of help from Merv at the G centre. He sent me part no.s and even faxed me pictures of how everything should go together. Thank you very much Merv.

I can just hope nobody else breaks down in France with a G, it is a nightmare. I could not find anybody willing to even look at it, could not find a Merc garage where anybody spoke English(or Afrikaans), I had to use Merv's pictures and numbers to order the parts, and they still got it wrong, but at least I managed to fix it enough to drive.

At least I got an extra weeks holiday and a new ratchet and visegrip.

Thanks for all the help.
