300GD Canvas Top
Hi
I am in the process of restoring a Canvas Top G
Does anyone out there know how many were introduced into the UK ?
Also how many survive now?
I know of about 5 or 6 in this area produced around '84 & '85 most of them in lovely Agave green!
My example seems never to have had rear seats but does have rear ash-trays.
Many thanks
Fillan
Hi I have just left a posting for Fred eccosse,I have one as well same colour with a full canvas and a bikini top.I took the bikini top off and will probably sell it,its like new and can be used in various ways tonneau ,pickup cover and roof only. Its green and in perfect nick.I am renovating mine, the previous owner fitted wheel arch extensions and covered up some rot, then painted the lower half with the wrong green.Does yours have the strange little 12v socket in the back?

hi soft top boys !!!
i have an 85 soft top in red 300gd 4spd manual, it came as usual just two front seats in vinyl, no rears heavy rubber floor covering.it had two strange rails in the load area half way up on the inside of the wheelarches.it did have ashtrays (possibly due to animal testing, all those beagles need somewhere to stub out their fags!)but no rear seat and no side windows in the soft top.it now has a different interior etc.
i also had a black soft top 86, that i sold to mate, 300gd auto.it had side windows and a merc rear seat and fronts all in black vinyl, the rear seat had three inertia rell lap belts.it also had arches and 15" alloys from new.it also had the two odd rails in the load area as well, what are these for?
regards
Mines 5 speed manual,vinyl seats,had the load bars,has ashtrays and rear seat,originally on 15" x6" steels no arches.Bruce..

Officially the only Cabrios imported into the UK were the 300 GDs that I mention in my other post http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2752
I am checking my collection of sales catalogues and the only mention I could find was in the October 1986 one:
The 300 GD Auto you mention must have been a special order or have been retrofitted with the seats and the canvas top with side windows. It would be interesting to have the complete VIN to check this. The pick-ups tend to have the vinyl seats and the steel rims without extended wheelarches given their more utilitarian orientation.
As far as other 460 RHD Cabrios the only other that I know of is a 280 GE sold in Cyprus and subsequently brought to the UK.
Cheers
