617a further improvments
Having bought back my G 300 tdi I am now considering completing the upgrades I had planned.
I have increased the boost so spool up is earlier, and cured the rattley Tbox lever, I am now considering changing to a variable vane turbo and wet intercooler, does any one have experience of this?
I also have a very rare 4speed auto box with granny first gear, I plan to fit this too, again does any one have experience of these?
Hi Bill after fitting a 617a from a 123 estate with auto box i went to allards at Gloucester to chat about intercoolers and they lost me completly, what they do with diesels is incredible, would be worth your while speaking to them 01452500333 I will be going back when i have saved some money up! Mine is going well now but i do have a delay when switched off, i tell people it's a timer to let turbo spin down !! She flies up to 75mph and could do with another gear any suggestions ??
the turbo timers are great ideas. my friend has one on his toyota celica gt4rc, he also now has the boost adjuster, he went for the simple turn dial opposed to the fiddily digital one, sposed to be great, but of course you can blow the engine if you get carried away!
wot exhaust mod can i use on a 617a from the turbo to exhaust down pipe, sprinter van maybe?

Interesting. A lot can be done to the 617a without spending loadsa money.
I get a good cruise around 80 mph in fifth gear and have pushed to 90 mph. Probably because of intercooling.
The main improvement is in pulling power when towing and on a recent cross country drive in Wales I was hardly higher than tickover in 2nd gear.
