For those that have yet to see what I am talking about:

Popped along to my Local Mercedes dealership, with whom I have a good relationship. Enquired if they were bringing in a Demo GL in September|October.... Answer, most definitely.

Then, whilst trying to arrange a night out for the GWOA membership at the GL launch, was very politely told that DC was forbidding dealers to show any links with the new model and the older G's. I had hoped to have a line up of G's thru the ages so to speak.

Seemingly, whilst production of the our G continues, the GL is to be marketed completely separately.

Now, I know you all agree that the GL is NOT a G, but there is some shared heritage, if not componentry.

A little surprised thats all.....

Comments?....

This does not surprise me. You only have to look at most of the MB range to see why they don't want any Gs there. DC or MB are now in the business of selling A and C classes to aspirational people. They might make more on a G but it is easier to sell 20 A class on finance. Sadly, I don’t think I will be troubling MB for any cars in the future.

Talk about the poor relation. I see that the marketing guys happily took the G Name though, if they didn't want association the the 1979 G why use the same name?

Nice looking wagen, I hope it is better finished internally than the ML was.

Martin, I suppose it would spoil your good relationship if we all turned up on the night ( in our "G"s ) and talked loudly about "G"s ?
Just a thought

If MB are not interested they could ditch the G and let it be sold under the Puch badge. MB would not be embarassed of us and we would not have to put up with them.
