Re: rubber light surrounds

Hi Greeney,

4 sets so far, none have cracked.

It's all down to the prep and primer. (Not me!!).

IMO looks tremendous. (Humble, I should add)

Re: rubber light surrounds

They do look good especially with the grill and 463 bumper too
Oh I dont know what to do...
have you changed the rear bumper too and added 463 tail lights? I am just bidding on a set of lights on ebay. I know Il have to add reverse light.

Re: rubber light surrounds

Hi Greeney,

Bought a new 460 bumper for the rear. Had a 463 one, but not the plastic end caps. These are ludicrously expensive, so I cut my losses and used the originals (Painted of course). The front is completely new - the bumper, caps, lights and fittings, not including paint was over £800. Daft.

It may well be me selling the rear lights!! Clearing out my cupboards, and yes - you'll need to wire in a separate reversing lamp.

Re: rubber light surrounds

Can the headlights surrounds be recovered/repaired/repainted when they start to seperate at the bottom .. I have not got mine off yet (suspect it will require the self taper ground off from inside the wing and new fixings) but they have a feather edge at the bottom which I presume is seperating off a steel backing plate. At about £60 a side I am not too happy to replace them

Re: rubber light surrounds

There are some non-rubber headlight surrounds that suit the 460 (although actually 461 parts) that are ideal for painting. They are regularly (if not always) available on Ebay and are designated as "lightweight" headlight surrounds. I believe that they are hollow and made of a hard plastic material and better suited to painting than the more flexible rubber units.

The price below is from the MB website around 6 months ago.

461 880 01 40 Headlight surround - Lightweight LHS € 31.32
461 880 02 40 Headlight surround - Lightweight RHS € 31.32

I hope that this helps.

John

Re: rubber light surrounds

do not worry martin, i am contemplating what to do to my blue g!!!

i cant really warrant a full respray (bloody government and there uni fee's) but ive been thinking of making the blue a feature of it by colourcoding it.

any ideas lads and lasses? (feminine touch cant hurt, but i dont want matching cushions on my rear seat!)

Tom
