Hi fellow Paddys

My father is in the process of buying a G in the Republic, his current insurer has no listing for G's and is been told that it would be categorised as an import (hence high premium).

Does anyone know of an insurer that would be more understanding!!

Thanks
James F

Question for the Irish Members

I'm insured direct with AXA, they didn't seem to have any problems with Gs. Previously I had lots of silly questions and even sillier quotes through a broker. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advise, I believe he went through a broker and was getting nowhere.

Question for the Irish Members

Fintan,
Not sure how relevant this is us being in N. Ireland, I spent some considerable time looking at importing a "G" from Germany etc. ,the limiting condition always being ? could I insure it ? There was no problem in getting quotes for pre 1991 stuff, or for whatever other years MB officially imported "G"s. There is a post somewhere on this forum where Jesus, in response to my pleas, listed all models & years for that the "G" was ever offically brought into GB.
The bottom line was IF the model was offically imported one could get insurance from a few of the brokers or agents ( or direct ) and most of them would also cover, for a not unreasonable extra % age, a LHD personally imported from Europe -- AS LONG as there had been an equivalent RHD model produced for the British market.
Hope you can make sense of that,
Good luck,
Marcus

re marcus

i rang them for a quote for my 87 g280 and they gave me a quote
of 580 fully comp as a normal passenger vehicle
the couldnt goive me discount for it been old or limited miles or anything
i got my insurance then from suretern direct for 291 fully comp 600  0 miles pa
and to use to go to and from work if needed, it started at 221 for 3000 miles and another 30 odd quid for 6000 miles and the rest for to and from work
ref the mighty QUINN they have insured a few odd ball merc,s over the years for me including a lhd merc s350td that i bought from a spainish guy in the uk many years ago
and they insured me when nobody else would touch it
BUT! they are an awkard bunch when its comes to a claim
