Hello everyone.

Recently my 280GE was hit while parked. The driver's side rear bumper endcap was shattered. When I ordered a new one, I was asked whether I had fender flares or not (or do you guys call them wheel arch extensions?) I answered that I do, and the parts man kindly sent out what he believes are the proper end caps. (Note: the new ones are made of rubber or plastic. The original fiberglass ones are reportedly no longer available.)

When I received the new part, I noticed that the lip which comes out to the side of the end cap which is meant to line up with the edge of the fender flare is shorter than the stock one. (See the photo below.) The distance from the mounting hole to the edge on the stock piece is four inches, while on the replacement the same measurement is only three inches.

I called the parts man again today to ask if there is another end cap available with the proper size lip, and he replied that he only knew of the two versions.

So, what I'm asking is, could someone with an EPC please verify that there are only the two options available?

OR:

Is there someone with a spare original fiberglass end cap that they wouldn't mind parting with? I'd be willing to buy a pair to get the left hand one that I need. As I indicated, I'm looking for one with a 4" space between the upper front mounting hole and the outside edge.

BTW, the part no's for the replacements I was sent are 4605251138 and 4605251238.

Many thanks,

— Spalding

Rear bumper end cap.

strange, on my 280 the one in your hand is the one fitted to my 88. The one on your truck seem too large, as if they are for the Heavy duty axled 461 series.

re end cap

460s seem to come with two different sized arches, the fobreglass ones being wider than the rubbery plastic ones.
