Hi I have recently bought a 1986 280GE LWB, which appeared to be ok for the year until I noticed the lovely aroman from the petrol dripping onto the ground as i filled it at the filling station on the way home!

I am struggling to find second hand spares, the options seem to be plastic tank approx £400 tank fitted, a new MB tank nearer £700 with fitting kit and installation. I have heard of resin pour in solution does anyone have any details.

PS Incidentally before getting into the garage to fix the problem it made very light work of getting into a very steep very muddy field where I have managed to get a Landrover stuck before now, with both diff locks on it goes where my LR wont.

Obviously it probably is the (main) tank that's leaking but twice now i've thought my tank had a leak only to find once that the leak was actually in the small 'long-range' tank above the main tank rather than the main tank itself (fuel was running down onto the main tank so it looked as if it was leaking) and the second time the leak was from the fuel pump (mounted against the tank) - both much cheaper to fix than a new tank!

Chris,

thanks for the prompt reply, unfortunatly my trusty local MB specalist (other G's he doesn't like any MB with round headlamps) has delivered the verdict that it is indeed the main tank.

Have you tried a search on the web for tank repairers. Try Kempton Radiators in Kempston Bedfordshire. They do Rad's and tank repairs. Dont know there number but try yell.com to locate them.
