providing you insure it you can drive home send the Channel  Islands registration documents to Swansea along with a UK mot ( no mot's in the channel islands)  and wait for your UK V5 and new regn look for corrosion underneath especially around the rear spring top caps and front rollbar attachement brackets people tend to drive through the salt water in bad weather

Woolly Jumper

 Well guys,

A very interesting morning re buying a G from Jersey...Look on pistonheads its the red one with 59k miles...for £11995
. I did a bit of digging around the Citizens advice beureau at Gurnsey where the car was origionally registered, and the Jersea one too... niether countries are politically or financially linked and both have seperate Govornments and vehicle reg Authorities...
you cannot do (from exhaustive trying) a HPi check on a channel islands vehicle... The car is according to the seller(Un registered trader)
currently in Jersey but is still registered in Guernsey... and according to him is still on Guernsey plates...

So In frustration at the lack of ability to check this cars provenance i rang the Vehicle licencing Office in Guernsea.. and found the registration shown in the picture on the car was not on thier register as a Mercedes... it used to be but that number had been reallocated... so i rang the dealer in Jersey (only lists mobile numbers..no address) I said... has the car been registered in Jerseay he said no its still registered in Guernsey.. i said oh so the number plate its on in the picture is the curent one..he said yes!!  i said thats odd..Guernsey Vehicle office say its not allocated to that car anymone!!... he said oh ill call you back.. then when he did he claimed to have the registration document and a export licence... he even offered to register it in Jersey which he had previously told me had not been done cos it will cost 5% tax... im then thinking.. this car has no registration plates.. and i cannot check its provenance anywhere like you can in UK... so i said i was no longer interested.. he was rude then hung up....

Moral of my story is,,,,, if something looks too good to be true....

Incidently he had said earlier it had two owners not one... and according to HMRC  VAT at 20% would still have been payable on import on the invoice price..
Now im not saying that this guy or car is dodgy... but it didnt feel right and the nagging doubt was my inner gut feeling ...

Im going to hold out for a black 463 with leather and nice condition...fom the UK this time!!!!

my head hurts....time for a lunchtime drink...!!!

Re: Woolly Jumper

Just to add insult to injury I think there is duty at 10% to add to the invoice price before the 20% VAT.

It starts to become a very expensive 463.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong
