i have a little ting sound comming from the wipers , it just goes ting once   every time they go side to side.

should i be worried, i have heard they can be a bit tricky. it would be a bit of a bummer as i had the whole dash off to change the blower motor

Re: WIPERS

Hello Alan,

Probably you have something loose; a loose wiper motor on the bulk head - check the mounting bolts, of which there are three. You can access the wiper motor from the engine compartment, turn on the wipers and if the bolts are loose you will see the motor moving about.

Secondly, the wiper spindle could be seized and turning its body as the wiper oscillates to and fro. Check for any up and down movement of the spindles, if so remove the wiper arms and pull off the plastic cover over the spindle; operate the wipers and check to see if the spindle body turns as the wiper work their cycle.

Finally the spindle(s) may be excessively worn. Fortunately the whole dash need not be stripped; access is gained by removing the glove box, instrument panel and steering wheel.

Depending on chassis number, you may be able to buy one or both spindles, failing this, you will be forced to buy a complete link.

At my last check, these were under £120 VAT - no guarantees on that price, M/Benz have nurtured the 'supply and demand' pricing principles to the hilt.
