Finally got round to getting the wiper spindles on the G changed today. As I had to buy the complete assembly for the 463, I decided to remove the dash to change the whole  lot which turned out to be a lot easier than I expected. Rather than excessive wear the culprit turned out to be one spindle that had seized solid and slackened the securing nut off so that water could pour in. Have now given the front a thorough soaking with the hose and no more leaks so the carpets can go back in now.
Many thanks to Gav for sorting me out with the correct part numbers and dealer contacts.
Next job is to change the front seats.....

Hi Dougie

Glad you got sorted and was an easy ish job.

Which dealer did you get it from in the end and was it a good experience?

Re: Wiper spindles

I got them from John Weir in Perth. The parts advisor was very helpful and seemed to know what he was talking about although he refused to discuss part numbers with me. They took a couple of days to arrive and he posted them out at cost which is a lot cheaper than me driving down to collect them so all good.

Re: Wiper spindles

Hi,
I am about to do these on my 463, could you talk through the basics of how to get to them. The easiest way to remove dash? I was just going to remove intsrument panel and glove box.
Any help welcome!

Re: Wiper spindles

Hi there,
If you are just replacing the spindles themselves you should be able to do this by just removing the instrument cluster and glovebox by all accounts. I decided to remove the dash to make access easier as I was changing the whole linkage. The screws to remove for the dash are situated along the upper edge by the windscreen, which are pretty self explanatory, the lower edge behind the wood trim which you can prise out gently with a flat screwdiver or similar, and the sides which can be accessed by removing the trim next to the doors. The screws for these are undone from inside the dash, you can get to one once the glove box is removed and if I remember rightly, you get to the other by removing the lower dash panel on the drivers side after first removing the steering wheel and the cowling round the steering column.
Once you have the dash out the rest is fairly self explanatory - some of the ducting for the heater needs to be removed to gain access.
Hopefully this makes sense and anyone will correct any errors I've made as I don't have much experience where the G is concerned.
Also, sorry for the late reply.
Cheers
Dougie

Re: Wiper spindles

 Hello Dougie,

You just need to remove the glove box and instrument panel to this job.

Check the enclosed link for instructions:  http://fourbyfourclub.com/Manuals/W460WipersInstallation1.pdf

Re: Wiper spindles

Wasn't sure if that was just for changing the spindles themselves or if you could change the linkage as well that way too. I had plenty of time for the job in any case and the dash was pretty easy to take off anyway. Also found heater ducting that needed resealing anyway when it was off so was worth it anyway.
Cheers for the link
