Seems to me - this part might be past it's best?
I'd like to replace it - I'd like to know what it is called so I can get the local chap to order it.
This is a brace behind the rear n/s wheel, 1990's LWB G

I'd like to make sure they have the part before it goes in for it's next service.

The brace may be part number: A460 882 01 07 titled Stiffening. There should be one on the other side as well.
Check with the dealer before committing to buy. I have selected this part based on a 280GE LWB as I don't have details of your
vehicle. If the part is very expensive, it could be easily fabricated by your mechanic.
Hi known as a stiffenerand about £12 from merc agent
On EPC it is a stiffening fend , they are sided tho part number 460 882 01 07, and 460 882 02 07, some one with more knowledge will tell me which is drivers and passengers side were £7.40 +vat in October last year, without them backwings are a bit flexible....

Seems like this part was doing nothing productive for "some considerable time".
As you've said - it's not an expensive bit of kit - I'll get it ordered as I'm due a service about now anyway.

£7.60 Each + vat MB Germany
Standard 6mm Nuts, Bolts and Washers to fix then either end

I just put in that part number - and Google immediately returned that the part is usually rusted in half! Amazing!...
