Having just got G back after Head Gasket being done I've been monitoring Temp. Gauge sits at around 60 degrees when cruising 50 - 70mph.  Outside Temp. Is 1 - 3 degrees. Seems a bit low to me.

Would be interesting to know what other owners Temp's are.

Re: What temperature ?

I put a blanking plate across by radiator in the depths of winter as it can struggle to warm up

Re: What temperature ?

Hello Marko,

Sorry for a late response from me, my router failed and only to-day had I received my replacement, hence been off line.

Yes, your temperature is low and I suspect the thermostat.  Having had a head job done, I would have expected the thermostat to be renewed as a matter of course - shows poor practice if this has not been done.

Your temperature should be sitting on 85 degrees. The needle to be sitting on the top half of the digit '8' of 80.

Cheers,

Re: What temperature ?

I think that there is nothing wrong with your thermostat, check it out on a few hill climbs but if external temp is hovering around zero your indicated temerature is fine. Huss is in Cyprus lucky bloke where it's a we bit warmer than here.

Re: What temperature ?

Actually I've changed my mind again after getting info from and speaking to others. I'd forgotten that the heater temperature had changed
and never gets as hot as it used to when on highest setting! So may well be a faulty thermostat.
Can anyone tell me  how difficult a job is to replace thermostat is or how much should I expect to pay to get it done?

Re: What temperature ?

 HI Gav,

Easy DIY is good news. Though weather not going to help as I dont have covered area.
Can you send me part no. please.

ABS ECU is a no go for repair,  nobody knows about them, or has a diagnostic test for them as they are so rare.
So I am about to take the plunge tonight and buy from the guy in Germany. Have been in contact with him and he has a good reputation.
Just double checking all the part numbers before I buy.

Re: What temperature ?

Part Number A102 200 19 15 comes with the "O" ring seal.

3 x 6mm thread (M10 socket) bolts, early original housing had M6 flat washers, later original or replacement housing had M6 spring washers.
I think yours should have the later type fitted, usually you can tell as the later has an M8 thread screw blank in the top
92 degree opening temperature.

IMHO always use the genuine stat, can't quite believe a garage has replaced the head gasket and not changed the stat as a matter of good practice? I always believed it was.....

Hope that helps.

Re: What temperature ?

Yes I kinda thought that also, but nothing really suprises me these days when it comes to car servicing and repairs.
Thanks for part numbers.
Is that the thermostat housing at front right of engine with hose come from top right of radiator ?

Any do's or don'ts or things I should lookm out for when replacing?

Re: What temperature

Finally got round to replacing Thermostat today, thanks to parts Guru Gav sending me a new Stat.

Temp now sits a bit above 80 on dial as opposed to 60 degrees as my old one did.

Is there a sensor or stat for the Heater? can't get it to blow cold once the engine is warm.

Re: What temperature

Hi

Dont think so...

Sounds a bit strange...dont think they are related and sounds like you have had 2 faults.

The hot / cold is controlled by a cable from memory so that could have come adrift or the valve it operates could be faulty?

Assume you have the stat in the right way around but cant see it being that anyway?

Not Air Con is it?

Re: What temperature
Think it must be valve. It's a bit stiff but it does move both ways and  varies temp. from Hot(RH) to Warm(LH)
Even with fan off you can feel a little bit heat getting through.  Might just leave for winter as I'll have no need for cold air now. :)
