I came across this product the other day and wondered if anyone had any experience with it or heard anything positive/negative.

Any views or thoughts from a G's perspective?

Cheers

Re: Tunit?

This is plug and play sensor signal manipulation.....better get a proper remap job, its a gadget.

What are you thinking of tuning?

Re: Tunit?

I was actually looking into getting some parking sensors fitted when I came across the stand in the shop - increased fuel economy is always an attractive proposition, so I checked out the website. I suspected it was some sort of gadget but you never know...

what does an engine remap entail? Is it a simple software solution?

Re: Tunit?

Its a detailed modification of power/torque across selected rev ranges, depending on what the tune was for. Many different parameters are modified across the rev range and at different loads, ignition, fuel, throttle opening etc....

Did you get the parking sensors?

Re: Tunit?

selam sav..

i am pretty sure your G was tweaked by the previous owner..

if you want more power a diesel pump modification [increase the element size to 6mm ] and fit a bigger turbo.   should be good for 260 bhp.

the 606a will easily manage 350. and a max of 600 bhp !!!

check out superturbodiesel.com

Re: Tunit?

these days im primarily interested in increased fuel economy so if there is a way to try to achieve that, other than not driving, I'm all ears!

I haven't bought the sensors yet but will certainly get them asap - i bumped into a tree the other day and my bumber end cap is dented - a small but very costly dent which could have been avoided with the sensors. i was quoted £420 for an 8 sensor 'steelmate' kit with a visual meter (which i probably don't need as audible only will do). I thought that was a bit steep but it's a good shop and i do trust them to do a good job.

cheers Hus, good to hear from you! i check out the link.

Re: Tunit?

On 606 its a must to check and correct the pump timing as the chain and associated components do wear out and this knocks the pump timing out which can make these engines run sluggish.  The pump timing is set via a timing pin or timing setting tool(electronic switch) which is inserted on the side of the pump after removal of the access plug(17mm hex bolt).

You must set this very accurately and should see the resuts straight away, better starting, quiter running, better fuel economy and more power across the rev range.

The timing check and adjust is actually a service/maintenance item which is done at certain miles(can't remember at which interval, but I do always adjust them on high mileage engines as part of the service).

Steel mate is a very good kit with small sensors and good visual displays. I have installed a few of these with no problems so far.

Re: Tunit?

Like it Spider. But that's about all you get for free as you pay through the nose for everything else, right?

Re: Tunit?

A most sensible comment....pump refitting /timing check can be VERY tricky due to backlash...I always rotate engine a couple of turns and recheck pin. It is also a good idea to use the factory cage assy to hold the sprocket in place. My own preference is for 1' extra advance on the sprocket by grinding the stops ,this is important if you are putting extra fuel in.

Oh and on the subject of Tunit - ALL these devices are B S...simply a resistance in the line...only skilled remapping any good....ask any HGV man....10% of artics are 'remapped' properly ,4 to 5oo £.

As George, founder of DTM injection service said to me 35 years ago...'You want beans or economy ,you cant have both' !
