Yes,  I think Aldi being German helps immensely to the quality of the products. 3 year Warranty too.

I picked one up today and very impressed with it at such a great price.

Re: Torque Wrench at Aldi

Lidl are also doing some good car stuff from Thursday eg rubber mats for £10 and a nice little compressor for £12.99 see:

As Aldi, Lidl is German and a lot of their stuff is made by Silverline and has a 3 year guarantee. Personally I've found their stuff to be of a very acceptable quality.

Re: Torque Wrench at Aldi

Is it this one you are talking about?

Although the Lidl one is a pound more expensive I think it's more like a CTEK charger/conditioner/trickler which I don't think the Aldi one is.

I don't have any shares in Lidl!!

Ps they're also selling wonderful Turkish figs, cheap as chips.

Re: Torque Wrench at Aldi

I just wanted to add some pointers of a couple of items seen in the Lidil offers.  I do not doubt on the quality of their products but I urge members to consider a few pointers when it comes to buying some items such as the hydraulic jack and axle stands.

Starting with the jack, OK, it is rated at lifting 2 Tons which is adequate to lift either the front or rear half of the G-Wagen but look at the lifting pad, it is small.  This is unlikely to safely sit under the axle.  Secondly, the jack is relatively narrow, this does not instill stability issues for me, personally.

The vehicle cold be pushed from the sides and I can imagine the jack tilting over.  Fine, the jack is meant for lifting BUT, as DIYers how many of you would consider safety first.  The temptation that, you are just going to take a minute will always be there.  How many will take the effort of making sure the ground is level?  Look for a broader pad that cover the base of the axle comfortably, consider the lifting height of the jack and general dimensions of the jack.

The axle stands shown are probably fine for cars but not for the G-Wagen.  Please consider heavy duty stands and go for Commercial Vehicle stands.  Make sure you know what the maximum lifting capacity for the stands are and these should be able to carry the weight.

Consider the lifting height of the stand at its nominal height and nominal height.  The axle dimensions is important, lift height relative to the base spread which needs to be based on principles of; wider the better.

These two items are crucial to your safety so please do not compromise on the cost aspect of these in particular.

Regards,
