Hello
woke up this morning to find that one of the fuel tank straps on my 460 has snapped - rusted through. are these parts easy to come by? At some point I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get the tank protector as we'll so any advice there or fabrication tips welcome.
cheers,

i got this one off ebay for 250eur G-OLOGE
I just went to the stealer TBH. Often the price are not silly. Got a protector plate at the same time but that ebay deal looks good.
I would drop the whole tank and do some anti rusting on the top (presuming it is steel - later ones are plastic) .. as it is bound to be rusty. To do this you need to lift the carpet by removing the strip by the back door to get to the fuel pipes/senders.. and if it is a diesel I would drain/clean the tank for black sludge.
You are right in what you describe the work for removing the tank.
May I suggest; since you are going there to cover the exhaust pipe running across the tank to be wrapped with some heat resistant wrapping and, or lay a heat resisting mat over the tank, under the lay of the exhaust pipe.
Just to add to that, when I had my tank straps replaced I had a couple of plumbers soldering mats fitted under the exhaust whilst the tank was down, they are totally heat proof and very flexible.

Hi James,
Tank straps are dead easy to make. Just get some steel the right size and bend to fit ! Then weld a bolt on to the end and there you are. It is really that easy.
I have had a tank protector made by a local fabricator with a steel rolling machine. I gave him the remains of the old one and hey-presto. About £120.
Whist you have the tank out give it a very good clean, so good that it may find some rust holes! If so get it repaired and then apply several coats of red oxide and then several more of paint. Might as well do the job once and properly.
As suggested Plumbers Matting is great for around the exhaust.
Good luck.
Regards, Rowland.
a tank protector is easily made with some scrap stainless steel from your local scrap dealer, you can rivet layers together for greater strength you do not need to buy one
