Hello
Does anyone have experience with replacing their seats with those from other cars?

I recently happened across a set of black leather seats from a BMW 7-series really nice with arm rests and whilst i envisaged some modification and fabrication the seats in my 280GE SWB are really quite narrow (i even considered fabricating a new centre console!!)

I'm thinking that the Recaro seats from a BMW E30 3-series might be a better fit but would like to know if anyone else has undertaken this type of modification.

Regards,

James

Re: Swapping Seats

I bought an old rear seat from E-bay to reuse the material , i have spent the day stripping the old seat , pressing and pattern making. results so far are promising. The recaro's i am using came from a rover i think ....£60 a pair and the old rear seat cost me £20 so if all goes to plan, i should have a decent pair of trimmed seats for less than £100 all in.

Re: Swapping Seats

seats from a 190 and its repacement the c-class are a close match in terms of width to a g-wagens seats; the backs are a direct swap and the bases can be used with a modicum of fettling

Re: Swapping Seats

I thought about other merc seats but the thing about most Recaro's is that thecenter panels are seperate from the seat and are so easy to retrim. If you pick up some half leather recaro's only the center panel needs trimming so you dont need much material to match the original rear bench and door cards.
