Hi there,

Been having a problem with my G280 auto whereby when I enter a corner, turn the steering wheel and apply the accelerator the gears do not engage and there is no drive. You can hear the gear box working and trying engage the correct gear, but no drive is supplied to the wheels. It is only when I straighten out the steering wheel and apply the accelerator again does it restore drive to the wheels. Any ideas why this is and how I can fix it? Do I need a gearbox rebuild?

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,

GGG

Thanks, will check but I am sure that it was at a pretty good level and I have spotted no leaks on the floor, etc...

Re: Strange Gearbox problem...

 Just a quick update...

Checked the transmission fluid and it was low. Topped it up and it has solved the problem.

Do you think any damage has been done by running on low for what must have been a while now?

Also, I forgot to add that I cannot get the gear lever into the No 1 ratio position on the gear box selector. Any ideas?

Cheers again for the great feedback and help!!!!

Re: Strange Gearbox problem...

If the gears work as they should, no delays in shifting or delays or slippages, you are O.K.

First gear usually do not work particularly when not used. There is a cylindrical link on the selector rod which becomes seized or blocked with mud and  dirt. This can prevent first gear selection. Other causes, bent selector rod, physical blockage down the selector console.
