ssangyong 2.3 petrol engine
How closely related is the ssangyong ( nee mercedes) 2.3 4 cyl 16v petrol engine to the 230 ges 8v engine? It could be like a detuned cosworth.
Could a head or engine transplant be done? It appears to give 140 bhp and more torque maybe even better fuel economy.
My current engine is in good health only 200k miles but as allways for the 2.3 needs a bit more go.

The Cozzie engines were derived from M102 series engines, I don't thing the M111 unit is K-jetronic so you would need the install the electronic fuel injection system as well, no easy task, they have different bore and strokes to so the head would not be a swap either
