I now have two replacement rear spring carriers/ saucers that hold the springs on the rear axle.

I know they are welded on but is it feasible to undo the radius arm, jack it up high , remove spring and weld spring cup in position? Or is it really an axle off job?

It is possible to replace the coil mounts without removing the whole axle. Disconnect the bottom of  the shock absorber, disconnect the rear brake governor's link rod. Jack up the rear of the body supported by axle stands on the chassis not, axle.

Remove the wheel on the side you choose to work at and jack the axle on the opposite side. his will tilt the axle on the side you choose to work at. You may have to provide a little assistance in levering the tilted side of axle and carefully remove the coil spring.

If the space is tight in working to cut out and re-weld the new coil mount, you might just want to remove the rear body to chassis mounts and lift the rear of body packed with wooden blocks in between the cab body and chassis; this could allow for more working space to re-weld the spring mounts.

Take care when you work the off-side of axle that the brake hose is not over stressed when providing for leverage to remove that sides coil spring.

For the control arm it is only necessary to undo and remove the lock nut and bush at the front, this is enough to provide for axle articulation.

What he said.. I took off the Panhard rod rather than tilting the axle.. but the prop shaft was limiting stroke.

I cut slots in the new cups so I could weld onto the vertical supports on the axles.. also limits the welding you do to the axle tube to a few quick spot welds.

Cut cups off using a vertical plunge cut with angle grinder.

Look at your top cups too... my springs broke, then top mounts were horrible and then bottoms were close behind so did the whole lot by holding it on about 16" of lumber under chassis and jacking body up from floor to give me about 3-4" clearance (steering off.. and rad top mount, then just the 6 body mounts).
