We want to replace the hydraulic pump for OM 617 engine
 P/N 116 460 2780  by 126 460 1580
The pressure of the old pump is 82 bar while the new one is 65 bar only
Our G class  is LWB
Does it make any problem ?

Re: OM617's Hydraulic Pump

There is a current post on Pointed 3 forum in the US and Warren T on that forums says:

"The 460 G pump is the same as 126 body cars with 82 bar relief valve.
Same pump on 123 cars but set at 65bar.
When using the sedan pump on a G you should use the G pulley as it
has a slightly smaller diameter so will spin faster for a given engine RPM.
When installing a Diesel from a sedan, you need to use a shorter
belt to keep pump level. (13a 1120).

Warren

I cannot vouch for this personally but Warren seems to know what he is talking about.

Re: OM617's Hydraulic Pump

Please elaborate more, firstly, why is it, you want to change the pump?  What problems are you experiencing?

You have noted that the pump pressures are different, obviously, the lower pressured one would make your steering effort greater.  I do not know if this the effect you want to achieve, for you have not stated as to why you want to make this change.

Whilst changing the pulley will make a small difference in pump pressure in relation to engine speed, ultimately, the maximum steering pressure is still controlled by the pressure relief valve.  When 65 bar is internally reached in the pump, the valve will blow effecting a pre-determined pressure which is still below what G-Wagen pressure is set at.

hi
if you are experiencing heavy steering try changing the oil filter and checking that the steering mechanism is moving freely through the entire radius..could be siezed bearings ..

Re: OM617's Hydraulic Pump

 Silly question time

Cant you just swop the pressure relief valve over from the original pump?
