For the 1st few miles my 603 has a noisy serpentine (fan ) belt . Its not the Viscous fan dragging but is much quieter when it gets soaked in a puddle. Any ideas? Any pulleys to check, I did try and rock them but they all seem ok.

Re: Noisy Belts

Hi
the belt is breaking down internally as the bonding of the fabric layers decays .heat seems to expand the belt and then the noise goes away ...change the belt because it is failing and will break eventually....

Re: Noisy Belts

Thanks, Whats an average life for a belt? If they break do they damage anything as in tensioner etc?

Re: Noisy Belts

May I suggest that you look at the tensioner coggy thingy? I had this noise just before it seized up and the fan belt came off. In my case it was a dirty tensioner (full of 10 years worth of mud and stuff). Quick shufty down to MB a few hundred pounds (£225) and it was fixed and running perfectly. (BTW thanks Goochie for stopping and chatting with me that day!)

Re: Noisy Belts

I will investigate , I do recall it wasn't there when I changed the belt about 4 years ago.
However don't want it breaking on a long trip.Last time I inspected it looked all ok.
