New & Looking
Hi chaps,
I thought I'd take the time to introduce myself whilst wading through the myriad of posts on this site. I'm currently looking to purchase a SWB mid, to late 90s, automatic G-Wagen and stumbled across this site. I've owned more modern 4WD vehicles and a few older Japanese ones but am now looking for my first G for those miserable winter months (not that dissimilar to our summer!).
Other than the hunt for a great example G, I spend my free time tinkering with Morgans and trial and error DIY ;)
I'm based in Surrey, so if anyone can point me in the direction of a stunning condition, honest example SWB G-Wagen, I'd be much obliged.
Thanks for the great site and resource.
E-bay, Pistonheads and Auto trader as well as this forum. There are plenty of G wagens in the London area so theoretically much choice; which engine do you want and how much are you prepared to spend are key questions you need to consider. You could get a ges 3 litre petrol for as little as £5,000 from 1991 or spend over £30,000 for a 500 V8 from 1998/1999. Condition though is everything and there a certain number of phoneys out there too, be careful.
Hi Simon
bear in mind that RHD production ceased in 1994.. if you want LHD there are two German websites with probably 200 G's for sale between them
Hi and Welcome.
Good luck with your search. You may like to try James Lafferty at G Wagen in Caversham, though be prepared for a wait for him to call you back! Will be worth it in the long run. Should you find a suitable G from ANY source, be sure to post a picture and some words before you buy it, as the G knowledge base here is excellent.
In the mean time, best of luck with your hunt

I've sent you an email, got something that might interest you. And welcome to the club!
Definitely an active club member, seen it at almost every AGM I've been to in past 5 years.
Thanks for the welcome and advice.
My budget is circa £10k and my initial thought was to go for the diesel; however, as it won't be my daily driver, I'm more interested in buying on condition than exact engine ideal.
When it comes to Morgans, I know my way around and have helped many people find the perfect car but in the case of the G-Wagen, I'm flying a little blind and am throwing myself on the mercy of this forum :)
I'm not in a rush and am happy to wait for the right example. It has to be a SWB and automatic and ideally black, navy, blue, grey or silver. The rest, as I said, is down to condition and history file.
Cheers
