Re: new g owner

Hello and welcome
I hope that you will get a lot of help from this site- I have. Eddie was also very helpful to me when I had a crash in January last year. A lot of the parts came from him. There are a few people on here who you will find really helpful I am sure.
Good luck with the project. I have a 1993 300 GDS and love it!

Re: new g owner

Welcome to the GWOA; you have mentioned that your are equipped with a PTO, that is extremely rare, would like to see photos of it and any instructions you might have to engage the PTO. What would you use the PTO on? Is there an excess to the rear of vehicle to attach any auxiliaries to the PTO or does it rely on the take off as being located under the vehicle?

Re: new g owner

THE PTO IS ATTACHED TO THE GEAR BOX ITS JUST 2 FLANGES NO SHAFTS RUNNING FORWARD OR BACK LIKE UNIMOG. I HOPE TO FIT A COMPRESSOR UNDER THE G FOR AIR TOOLS ETC ANY OTHER OPTIONS WOULD BE WELCOME.IS IT POSSIBLE TO RUN A PTO SHAFT AND IF SO WHAT KIND OF POWER WOULD IT HAVE? I CANT SEE HOW YOU WOULD RUN A SHAFT BUT STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPANED.I HAVE FITTED A NEW VACUME PUMP NEW HEATER PLUG CONTROLER AND RE BUILT THE FRONT AXIL SO FAR. RE FURBISHED THE REAR PTO AND NEW BRAKE CYLINDERS. WHEN I SAY I WHAT I REALY MEAN IS GORDAN A GOOD FRIEND AND F
FELLOW MT BIKE RIDER DOES MOST OF THE WORK. I STAND THERE AND TALK ABOUT THE GREAT ADVENTURES THE G WILL TAKE.
I AM COLLECTING A NEW FRONT WINDOW RUBBER TODAY FROM MY LOCAL MB DEALER IN NAAS SHOCK HORROR AT PRICE OF PIECE OF RUBBER.DOES ANY BODY KNOW WHERE A FULL FLOOOR RUBBER MATT CAN BE GOT I WANT TO GET AWAY FROM CARPET NOT GREAT FOR DOGS OR MUCKEY FEET.
I WILL POST SOME PICS AS SOON AS I CAN GET MY SON TO DO IT. I STRUGGLE WITH THECNO STUFF. I LIKE WINDY WINDOWS STILL!!!!

Re: new g owner

 Rakesh,
All the twelve Super G Crew-Cab Pick-Ups (461 "Dela" models) that we supplied to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were equipped with the power take off (PTO) facility, plus an electronically operated hand-throttle control.

However, there are limits to what you can do with this unit which bolts onto the left hand side of the transfer case and is gear driven. It provides forward and rearward facing drive flanges. For shaft drive applications, clearance is a problem as there is no "line-of-sight" to the front or rear of the chassis for mounted equipment such as generators of pumps. There would be space for a close mounted hydraulic pump, but I have never seen one installed so can't comment further on that application.

Standard output speeds of 540rpm and 1000rpm are available by selecting 1/2 or 3/4 (Auto) respectively and adjusting engine revs, depending on how much power/torque is required. Maximum designed power available for PTO is 22kW@540rpm and 40kW@1000rpm.

Engaging the PTO is fairly straightforward. With the vehicle stationary, transfer box in neutral, select the required gear on the autobox according to output range required and adjust electronic throttle control to the desired revs.

I should point out that the installation in our new friend's 460 will be different in detail, if not the basics. I can't imagine Steyr spending money on developing a new unit for the 461 when take up on this equipment option was so low. The electronic hand-throttle, of course, will be new as the "Dela" was a fly-by-wire throttle.

I hope this of of some interest/help to you and the membership.

Re: new g owner

I have come to realise not everyone might know of PTOs. For those of you who may not know; PTO stands for Power Take-Off.

The G-Wagens have capability to have a PTO attached to the transfer box. By doing this, almost any auxiliary unit could be coupled to the PTO such as water pumps, generators etc, etc...
As Quercus has stated in his thread above there are limitations to the extent of use of PTOs; never-the-less it is a great gadget to have.

The above link shows you the fitting and operation of PTO.

Re: new g owner

I would fit a pto driven hydraulic pump, then you could fit numerous spools front and rear which would let you power winches, snow ploughs, dump trailers etc. Your G would be a mini tractor.

Re: new g owner

1. Lidl do good rubber mats every so often, they have to be cut to perfect fit but they are very good quality and cost little.
 2. Do try the German eBay site for parts, I spotted a front window seal the other day  for a lot less than this country.

hth.
