Hi,
Have a leaking fuel injector. Appears to be from where arrow indicated on attached piccy. Looks like some type of gasket etc. So, how straight forward is this (or not) to to remove offending parts whilst in-situ, replace gasket (part number?) etc. Please note photo is taken from internet and not as attached to my car (know this is perhaps obvious but judging by level of some of the banter, and mentioning no names, best make it clear ?!? - also perhaps not identical to mine but close...)
Cheers,
Stewart

Re: Leaking fuel injector - easy repair?

Hi Stewart

Assuming yours is still the '87 300GD W460 with a OM617 engine fitted then this picture actually looks like a good option!

The pump no A617 070 43 01 is the earlier type fitted to that model with a A617 070 54 01 being the later. Without your chassis number i can't tell exactly but it is irrelevant anyway.

However unfortunatly MB do not list the gasket for the part you are looking for. They do list a side plate gasket behind the slotted screws, a bottom "o" ring seal and a governor rear housing gasket but not the gasket between the governor housing and the main pump housing. From my experience this usually means that it is a job for the professional deisel pump specialists which may require special tools or set up knowledge etc. I am sure however that Bosch will sell the gasket through their network of agents etc.

As i remember you are in Sheffield area and there is a good old school deisel injection specialist at
A&R Motors at 33-35 Bold St off Attercliffe S9 2LR Tel: 01142 560473.
It is a large commercial bodyshop but within the premises there is a deisel section that is owned by the same company.
Paul Hobbs is a director of the Bodyshop and if you speak with him and tell him that Gav from Northside has recommended him, i am sure he will sort you if they can. The Bodyshop is directly behind the MB CV dealer Northside Truck & Van Ltd on Attercliffe.

The only other people i have used in Sheffield that are very helpful are Hogg Diesel Injection Ltd 386 Cricket Inn Rd Sheffield S2 5AX
Tel: 01142 272 5692

Hope this helps

Re: Leaking fuel injector - easy repair?

Hello Stewart,

My experience on injector pumps goes way back to my College days'.  In Service life, I have been fortunate or not; not to have worked on injector pumps.  On that basis, I can say, that if it is a fuel leak you have, I can only suspect an internal leak in primer pump.  Leaking fuel from its internal seal is allowing excess fuel to leak out from where you have indicated.

If, I am correct in this, you can renew a seal kit and, or pump by removing the primer with the injector pump insitu.  There is no other way, I can think of, that allows for fuel to be in the indicated leak unless it is engine oil.  I have limited access to EPC illustrations, so I am unable to study for you, a blown diagram of the injector pump in detail to comment more constructively.

If, I am prooved wrong and there is a seal leak in the indicated area, then in order to effect repairs, the injector pump has to be removed, in which case, this is a job for a diesel speciaist, for the pump will be needed to be re-timmed.

Re: Leaking fuel injector - easy repair?

Cheers guys - well so much for a little bit of DIY this bank holiday (wet) weekend. Gav, will follow up lead for Attercliffe to get 'professional' opinion (have used the Northside garage for parts before so know location - have also used Hoggs before for Freelander injector work). Not surprised by these leaks - consequence of 10 years garaged perishing bits n'pieces but still lovin' the 'container on wheels' - it's been fantastic in moving house and carried some pretty heavy loads, no doubt dampers will go next though (need replacing).

Hello Gav,

Thank you for posting the files, but something is lacking on my computer; I cannot open your sent files for some reason.  I have not got any Java scripts or Abode flash drive installed; I feel that's the reson I cannot open these files.  Looking into this.

Hi Rakesh

You shouldn't need Java really

It's a simple Microsoft Word Doc, i even saved it in the old style so any version will open it.

If you have Microsoft Office it should open OK?

 Hello Gav,

I think you have hit the nail on the head, Microsoft Word is also missing off my computer, as it came back from the IT Consultant; I will have to buy a new package to re-load my system.

Sorry to swamp your post Stewart with IT talk

but.....

Rakesh i would assume, not knowing all the facts, if you had Word etc on before your issues, your IT consultant should be able to retrieve or re load them without the need to out lay more cash?

Just a thought

 Hi Gav,

I too appologise for hi-jacking your thread Stewart,, but this is exactly it, I did have Office Word, Powerpoint etc, but the IT consultant said I had not; I guess we are living in the age where every one wants to financially screw every on every one else. Enough said.

Cheers,

Gav - quick update; A&R are bodyshop only now (well last 2/3 years) - so Hoogs are going to give it the attention required.
