I have been insured with Adrian Flux for ten years using the GWOA discount - same car for ten years.

This year my renewal was 44% higher than last year - no claims, no changes no points but forty four % higher. I did phone but was told it was the best quote they could give me.

I did shop around and got a quote 85% lower than Adrian Flux same cover but with a lower Excess!!

Anybody else had this experience?

I'm with NFU for all but the SL60 which they won't touch. I havn't found NFU to be the cheapest but I would say they're the best. Ins Co's are only as good as they are when you need them. We've had one claim (Mrs IanA2 of course) and it was all dealt with in one phone call. They really are (IMHO) on par with First Direct when it comes to CS.

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

@ianA2 - +1 on that, you also get silly little things like covered for off roading so long as they are not timed trial's. yes

@Panzer - SAGA, good but *ahem* , they are a bit agest, as you have to be MUCH older than I am to apply! Though my Dad did get the best deal with SAGA.

When I did get a quote from mr Flux, he was in the top 5 of most expensive! (The most expensive being my previous insurance MB a whopping £3,900 pa!!!!

Let is know how you get on!

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

I have always found it advantageous to go shopping around for insurance after a couple of years with the same insurer.   A lot of insurers seem to offer a discount to get your business.   Unless you're claims history is appalling, of course.   I have also found that some insurers are cheapest for a period, then another takes over and so on.  The Co-op were quite competetive but won't accept a modified vehicle.   Lancaster are advertising competetive rates.   It might be worth giving them a try.   They have quoted me 30% less than Flux, but not for a G.

Flux was always one of the most expensive for me as well. NFU don't cover my area.

Was with Egg, but am now with Aviva

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

No surprised to hear about the increase. Adrian Flux are total sharks. I seriously would not give your money to them again. BAD News. Also be very wary of any firm that calls you constantly to do the deal (Flux did). I just renewed and one firm called me 3 times in 24 hours just while I was thinking about it. My policy (classics) went up by about 20% this year. I was with Footman James. Again I was with them for 10 years but their service became a disgrace and they charge for the smallest changes (£25 to change my address).

I went with Hagerty as they have a good rep for classics. Only criteria is that the G is insured as a classic and you should have a regular use car that is newer than your G. Price is very very good. You can do limited mileage but I dont know what their upper limit is. I would guess up to 5-10,000 miles could be insured. Not a problem for me as I do under 3,000 miles a year.

Re: Insurance - Adrian Flux?

As an update for 2021.

GWOA has Club Insurance relationship with Adrian Flux (no money involved, its just an agreement that if you are serious about your G-Wagen ownership, you might be safer to insure).  It typically gives approx 10% discount on underwriter quotes.

That said, I tried them last year and again this year and both times the quotes have been high.  Admittedly the features and benefits have been better, and service from Adrian Flux is very good, but there really wasn't much incentive to pay the premium they wanted.

I do know several members have reached good arrangements though.  Any other experience?

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

Been with Flux for 5/6 years

Hagerty and Footman James I've both used before for classics and good too

I have all 3 G's on a multi car classic policy with multi drivers and 5000 PA each mileage

Works out less than insuring 2

Insurance is the same as anything... if they haven't met their quota for the month you will get a better deal and probably more chasing

If they've done target god help you!

Always seems better to insure a day or two before month end and certainly not the 1st

My G300 SWB with Performace Direct - Agreed value, 8,000 miles per year fully comp - £152.

Quite happy with that when it came up for renewal so didn't bother looking around.

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

I had the same experience with Adrian Flux, after ten years of increasing premiums I was forced to shop around and NFU managed to more than half the premium Adrian Flux was asking for ! I went from over £400 down to £192 for my 2002 G270CDi. I know NFU doesn't cover all postcodes but they're definitely worth a try.

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?
Lol. I remember my 230ge insurance being fully comp at about £300 or so. The best they claimed to get for a 2012 G350 was £1200 ! That is with max NCD, 10k miles only, 2 drivers 55+ and a single 3pt speeding ticket. And I live rural. Zero claims. I really think it's a lottery. Last year it was £650 (multicar, another insurer), so I will stick with that. Btw... Classic car policies are fine for 30yr+ old Gs. Just be aware - 25yrs+ for drivers, really low annually mileage, you earn no NCD, and the car should be unmodified.

I found tAdrian Flux expensive back in the day but were the only Insurers in 2008 for the G400cdi LHD was around £1400 back then! And they made me fit a tracker too lol.

But Similar car through money supermarket 5000 miles per annum not main car was £507 last year. Out of M25 area.

The 2007 G55 is around £677 with 16 yrs NCD, LHD version through money supermarket!

Thats very very good. That must be standard insurance (not classic, as they don't do that).  I am sure they see me coming with a label on my forehead or something.  I should be a dream customer - have not claimed anything in over 30 years, and (at the moment) only the one speeding ticket.

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?
We have been with Adrian Flux since our first G-Wagen - a 230GE - in 2000. Now and again the renewal price goes silly so I scout about for different quotes elsewhere. Not every insurer knows what a G-W is... After the tedium of getting new quotes I go back to A.F. and we negotiate a better price. Although I could do without the souk style to and fro it has always suited me to stay with A.F. They are consistently pleasant, seem to care and appear to know their subject.

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

So here is a bit of insight.  Hagerty are very good for classic car insurance. They are called a 'low risk insurer' and for old cars will be competitive if:

over 25, 5 years driving experience, PRIVATE driveway or GARAGE kept.

Obviously your other details including postcode, convictions, mileage etc will come into play as well.

They WILL NOT insure on communal/residential parking, even if its only for 3 or 4 car spaces and looks like a driveway!  That was weird.

They also don't deal with No Claims Discount, and hence don't accrue any (if you are moving from an insurance where you had that).

So back to Adrian Flux.  They messed up on the G350CDi, but for the older 1987 230GE came with classic style insurance for about #170 GBP, on street city parking, single driver, no No Claims accrual, v. limited annual mileage.  I suspected the very limited mileage makes the difference.

Membership of GWOA may be requested, but not at the quote time.  Its the sort of thing they might check if you make a claim, so beware of that (i.e. membership not just registered).

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

Has anyone tried Flux Direct, a different company I believe, I had my GD300 on a classic insurance with them my renewal this year would have been £113 limited to 6000 miles.

Now 'rebranded' to Sterling Insurance Services, which itself is just a trading name of Herts Insurance Consultants Limited, Directors.. David/Yvone Flux.  Established and very healthy looking with 8m per annum Dividend payments.  Ultimately owned by Hadleigh Holdings (also David and Yvonne).  There is also an offshore company in there.  Address is East Winch in Norfolk, which is, surprise, the HQ of Adrian Flux.

Basically, Adrian Flux, Flux Direct, Sterling, Chartwell Insurance and HIC are all part of the same insurance group doing nicely thank you.

I'm with Adrian Flux(1) and Aviva(3) right now

Re: Insurance - adrian Flux?

Interesting, I never bothered looking anywhere else as it was so cheap, I always use go compare for the landcruiser and never auto renew!
