 Hi everyone!

dabber here from NJ, USA; driving a 2002 g500.  I'm trying to replace the stock mirrors with the more ulitalitarian version.  The original breaks really easily(plastic prongs that clip into the housing) due to the fact the door has to shut hard all the time and the heating element distorting the plastic in general.  And you pretty much have to replace the entire mirror to fix it ($400 USD-yikes)  So I wanted a more tougher version.

Anyways I'm having a difficult time finding them. Also would this be a custom fit job?

Thanks

Ok found a bunch on German Ebay.

Mainly interested in this:

So how difficult will this be to bolt onto a 2002 G500 463

Should be easy enough, but that's expensive (buying anything from Germany always is) - you can do each side new from MB in the UK for about £200-ish (the electric/ adjustable heated version of the same is also available but $lotsmore).

Gav will be along in a second I expect :)

Main part numbers I think are:

A4618101714 Mirror HolderL
A4618101814 Mirror Holder r
A4618101016 Mirror L
A4618101016 Mirror R

As I say electric/ heated versions are available too.

Not sure about base - do you not already have this on the 500? if so not needed.

Hi

Can't fault you on those numbers!!

A461 810 17 14 Mirror Arm L £130 + VAT MB Germany
A461 810 18 14 Mirror Arm R £130 + VAT MB Germany
A461 810 10 16 Mirror L £54 + VAT MB Germany
A461 810 10 16 Mirror R £54 + VAT MB Germany

None of the US dealers or logistic centres are showing stock of these...

There are loads of different Military versions of these type of mirrors that fasten at the bottom to the standard door mirror mounting and then screw to the door at the top of the mounting (these holes need to be made) These numbers are for a 461 series and do fit the Station Wagen, Panel Van and Pick Up body versions so should be a straight fit to a 463 Station Wagon. Obviously these are not a common fit on the 463 series however there were a few 463's with these from factory on Diplomatic Protection etc.but they have a special small mirror head and are mega bucks. Just be aware there will be versions out there on eBay for Convertable and Open variants with Folding Screens that may be different in fitment.

There is also a Commercial Vehicle version of the actual mirror that is identical but sold under a different part number A314 810 13 16 and these are £24.70 + VAT each MBUK have stock.

Electric versions are...

A461 810 08 14 Mirror Arm L  £137 + VAT MB Germany
A461 810 09 14 Mirror Arm R £137 + VAT MB Germany
A461 810 23 16 Mirror L £170 + VAT MB Germany *Not Currently Available*
A461 810 23 16 Mirror R £170 + VAT MB Germany *Not Currently Available*

Just a note, nearly all the Military 461 series run with 24 Volt electrics where the 463's are nearly all 12 Volt especially the civilian models, so i would presume that the electric option, would not really be viable.

Hope this helps

Hi

Looking at the current exchange rate, that looks about the right price as in the UK, allowing for shipping and tax.

Good find

I have concerns you may have two issues to look into. Firstly the door shuts are firm but not hard, have the door alignment and door stricker looked at, lubricate if necessary. Secondly, the heater element may be staying on too long.

Alternatively, disconnect the heating circuit and see how long the glass lasts with this out of the picture, after all. I suppose you won't have a heated element on the utilitarian mirror.

Yeah I've been running with the glass taped on without the heating element connected (lol), and its been runnings well.

Re: G-Professional / Military Spec - SIde MIrrors

I would just comment....have run with these mirrors for 7 years [ o.e. on my 461 militar ].....they look the part and give good rear view....
However...Noise on 80 +mph cruising
...Power/Economy loss due to wind resistance.
....Have replaced both sides several times -  lanes and hedges and oncoming vehicles

Tony

ps some earlier vehicles [460's] had doors ready drilled for top bracket even when mirrors not fitted

Thanks for that info Tony. I try to never go above 65 mph! But good to know about the the noise/economy.
