Do you own a GWagen from 1995 to 1997?
I have always been intrigued at the almost total lack of G-Wagens imported/registered in the UK in the years 1995 to 1997. I believe that very few units were imported in these, the last years of RHD G-Wagens officially imported by Mercedes-Benz UK.
But the UK was not an isolated case. I have the data of registrations in these years in Spain and the number of G-Wagens registered there are minute: 21 in 1995, 7 in 1996 and 10 in 1995 and these include personal imports of used cars
Obviously it is very difficult to get hold of the numbers for the UK, but if we were to trust Caversham Garage, they have a 1996 G300 advertised for sale (for £28,950 !!!!) as "being one of the 6 imported in 1996" (see http://www.autobaseuk.com/bin/findcar.dll?site=autobaseuk&idno=CAVR01000028 ).
As things stand, I would love to know if any of those Gs are in the hands of a GWOA enthusiast.... do you own one of such cars? If so let us know.....
Cheers
Hi Jesus thanks for the info..... it's just that I was researching the provenance of that particular vin number as I was led to believe that it was a direct import into the Republic of Ireland but the dealer code shows 537 which is GB.Marty has recently got a 96 463 GEL which is supposed to be one of six RHD uk imports for that year...rgds Peter
Hi Jesus....
Yep, bought that 1996 300 GEL, which was discussed at length. Still a work in progress.... thinking of an LPG conversion for one....
Delighted with it, the seats + door cards are a lot more modern than its predecessors. Aircon a nice addition to boot.
I see Nik (Wheelhouse) has its sister.... a silver 300, also of 1996 vintage. I'd have it too, but divorce would surely follow!!
marraige gets in the way of many ambitions we have
i too have my eye on that G300 at wheelhouse
The Wheelhouse site is sparse and no pics.
I scanned it and didn't pay attention to it last time it was mentioned. That one is RHD then? Hmmm.
We have been finding the SWB too small recently.
