Hi All

Just bought  my first G and love it to bits!
1988  300GD SWB..... a few questions..
Where can I find comprehensive user friendly owners/workshop manual?
When I drove it home cut out twice going up steep hills- fuel starvation? dirt in fuel line? common fault?
any ideas? Runs perfectly on flat smallinclines and downhill..l
What other vehicles carry same wheels?
Mine are alloys (15" ) but happy with steel- I need spare set for some mud tyres

I'm 20 mins from  Swansea -anybody know where I can buy service parts locally?
Any help/advice much appreciated

Re: First G

I only recently picked mine up NOV. 10 and got hold of the pocket mech books. Waste of time its crap heavily baised on the engine section which you can get info from any merc forum. Loads of mistakes and the quality of print is crap.

The best place i have found for info is clubgwagon.com forum loads of usefull info but these are incredibly simple vehicles and the few tech bits of info you need crops up all the time on forums.

I am not a paid member and have seen the flaming some one got recently when they asked exactly what you get for joining so doubt if i will. But people join so they must see something in it.

Does the fuel gauge actaully work as mine is US but shows 1/2 tank and goes up and down at random. Get in the back and check the actual amount of fuel and the condition of the sender ( mine is sans the actual float for some reason???) If thats all ok check for crap in the tank at the same time then the lines could be at fault .

Can any one comment on the over feed rate of the pumps ???I.E does it supply 20% extra at all times so you get a constant reflow to the tank and back again as in most bosch systems???

Search for wheels on here VAG group certain models.

You didn't get the gold one from the bay did you???

Re: First G

No- I bought this one.. EBay number 300518237933
I have asked admin for info on what you get for your £25  (  seems valid-I'm not very computer literate and some tech downloads are quite difficult to access if you dont have advanced computer skills ) and I was a bit taken aback at reaction to other guy that did same..
Oh well maybe an off day..
Only wheels I can find same/similar are from Merc Sprinter...

Re: First G

 Hello and welcome roctstaman.

With regard to the technical manuals, you may want to search around the website as I think we have some technical mauals here on the forum (sorry I can be spacific, technicality on G's is not really my thing!). Hope you get your fuel problem sorted out soon!

Re: First G

Hello
Am in the same situation. I got mine (1st G) on the 1st Jan and love it. Managed to break it already but just got it fixed. Do you have a manual yet? I was sent it as a pdf which, if you still haven't got one I could email you if you send me your  emaila ddress.
Mine is a 1993 300GDS. I think the manuals for the different ages are pretty similar.
Anyway, if you want it, let me know
Caroline

Peter Perfect
Is there a point to your post ?
If so could you clarify it because it makes no sense to me?

Re: First G

Bought my first G wagen couple of weeks ago. 1988 230GE.

Has had a diesel engine conversion.

Have noticed there is a limited number of mods you can do to pre 90's models.

Anyone got any tips or must dos?

Cheers Rhodes

Re: First G

£25 is contribution for the cost of the site, the AGM once a year that all are invited, free off road site in most cases and a buffet, 3 G wizz magazines a year with tech advice and articles, is £25 to much for this, possibly,£15 sounds more reasonable, something I have questioned and continue to do so.

Printing and postage 3 x G wizz a year x £1000 =£3000
Website costs = dont know but AGM shows fiqures
AGM = £1000 approx

The new website cost circa £3000 due to hacking last year off the old one.

As for the rest of the money I cant comment. Forgot to mention mark and I spend numerous hours compiling the G Wizz mag for free !.

yes you can get advice free from here and pointed 3 over in the states. if you are a member you get to download all the old G Wizz so plenty of toilet reading for the next year. But im not selling the idea of you handing over £25 only to be disappointed, some are, some arent. Anyway £25 is enough for an oil and filter change isnt ?

Re: First G

Reply to Peter P

What I would have liked is perhaps to be able to download some form of Technical /Workshop /Owners manual some, friendly banter and maybe meet up with some other G owners
What I dont want is the Spanish inquisition ( nobody wants the spanish inquisition-you either get this or you dont ) third degree or bullying tones from someone who obviously thinks the world owes him a favour...
If in any sphere of life someone is paying out hard-earned cash they have a right to know what they will receive for their money..or do you just want a bunch of cash cows to finance your site-?
I run a 4x4 website single-handedly but I wouldnt harp on about it..I just get on with it...
If any body in admin is not happy with this post refund my £25 -I'll send back paperwork and go my merry ,happy way....

Re: First G

Listen buddy, your the one with the problem , I don't ask anyone for any favours, I have been in the club for 12 years, ive seen them come and go, we have meets, we have banter,we even go on big tours, look under that section, but few even bother to attend, you get help, just because its not in the tone you want then tuff, i talk how I want, like it or lump it. thats me and everyone here knows that.

Its not my site, its all who enter, we are not looking to finance anything, just the running cost, no wages! if it wasn't for me and mark offering our services to do G wizz then you might have a grip about the £25. if your not getting what you want go elsewhere then, I couldn't give a hoot, I don't even own a bloody G Wagen, but I offer my advice where I can,you got a grip then PM all the admin and area reps, it don't need to be posted on the forum, because most of the admin don't even post on here example:-

Tim Carnell- Chairman
Tony Baskil- Membership secretary
Howard Green- midland rep

Why? because its not there bag, so its up to the rest of us, but don't think the "non-Poster" don't spend bloody hours sorting stuff you never see FFS!

Re: First G

First ,your not my buddy-I imagine your buddy wears a gimp mask and gets beaten a lot-your just a bit sad with an axe to grind and I'm not playing
Second I havent got any problems-life is sweet!
Admin can read it and make of it what they will... but I think your the one thats coming across as having a  big problem and more importantly putting off potential members with your threatening and bullying, aggressive  tones
You  can reply all you like I'm finished with this ..if you want me off site talk to admin -  otherwise dont bother me again..

I think what we have is landroveritis, similar to the anti apple mac fanboys that infest mac forums.

Keep smiling ! Whoop whoop

Re: First G

Mr Perfect - Please refrain from hazing new members! Not everyone has a robust sense of fun as you do!

Rocstaman - One must understand that, like the vehicles we drive and love with a passion, our humor can be not as smooth and rounded like some of the 'other' vehicles out there! Peter Perfect is meaning no harm, and as a new member, I thought I had better share with you he is also a mine of VERY useful information and is also very knowledgeable and practical around G's. FYI Mr. Perfect is one of the co editors for G-Whizz (our club mag) and is the first one willing (and able) to pull you out of the mud and mire when we go off roading. You did ask some specific questions, and to be able to answer he would need the information he (as any knowledgeable member) has requested.

Both of you: May I suggest you carry on via PM (Private Message) or CM (Chat Message)

Many thanks

Re: First G

 Mmmm,

I smell porkies in this thread...

First you say you are not very computer literate and then you say you run a website by yourself?

Pay the money, get access to priceless advice....I saved hundreds of pounds of garage bills through advice from this site during my G ownership.  If you dont want help.... dont join.  simple.
