Hi All,

Do any of you have good examples of the stripy G paint jobs from the early 80's?

An example can be seen below.

What was the history behind this styling?

Love the colour scheme, what do you mean you doubt it would sell today!

Was it  a factory paint job or a post delivery mod?

On the black G above, the silver is paint and the red is some sort of sticker. See close-up below.

Had the same on my 230 silver..took them off also, im not sure it was an MB option, just after market to spruce up a very bland looking car that wasn't selling to well.

The two tone beige and burgandy was an ~MBUK fleet car that was part of a small fleet  of vehicles that did the rounds of dealerships to be used for local 4x4 events........when i said i did'nt think it would sell today  ....cannot see many people ordering a new G62 in that paint scheme....cool

I believe that these stickers were dealer options, never fitted at the factory.

They are shown in a 1984 Accesories brochure but not listed there...

Re: Early 80's paint jobs

The stickers were made in the UK in South Yorkshire by a local company and fitted by MB UK before supply to the dealers...they did them on the PowerLiner trucks in the Mid / Late 80's also.

The company has long since folded although the owner has had a few other companies in the commercial vehicle refurb / paaint market and is still trading today.....

He made a small fortune knocking out those sticker kits...

He also has a couple of lovely Ferrari's and a beaut Alfa Montreal.... but they dont have stickers on sad

Thanks guys, great info. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone have detailed photographs of a G with these strips? Specifically interested in the rear.

Re: Early 80's paint jobs

I have the stickers on my silver 230 GES

The rear had a red/charcoal strip (as on the bonnet) top and bottom. I lost the bottom one when the door was repainted.

I did repace one rear side sticker by having it digitally photographed and repoduced on vynal. It was that or take all the rest off!
