Early 460 head light switch
Hi Guys,
Where is the best place to look on-line for the head light switch? I've been searching online but must be using wrong search terms.
Can I get a new one or can you only get reconditioned switches.
Also where can I get my hands on a 460 parts number catalog? Or even better is there an online database I can search?
The issue I'm seeing is the headlights will not switch on.
The switch has 3 positionsAll lights offDriving lights onFull lights on
The driving lights will come on but not the full lights. In the full lights on position the dipped beams are off and the full beams will not come on either.
Initial I took out the switch. Took it apart and with very light emery paper cleaned all contacts. This worked for a couple of days/a week and then back to the start again. I think it's time for a new switch.
If you know the VIN of the vehicle, post it and I expect someone will look it up for you as it might be tricky working out which switch you need if its different from the ususal 5 way you find on mid 80s vehicles (which had park L, R, Off (center), running, headlights on with 2 stop pull-out for fog front and rear from memory).
FWIW, the 5 position switch is part number A0005453704 - I just bought one from MB - they are about £70 - ouch!
Looks to me as though it is the 5 way switch A0005453704 but I am sure someone else will confirm.
There are a number of websites that carry an older version of the MB EPC - the one I tend to use is neoriginal.ru - you can look at the page I'm looking at here: http://www.neoriginal.ru/cat/mb/part__2_1_350_460_233_/54_590
Brilliant, good result :-)

rgds hus.
From my experience the switches are bullet proof, most probable the indicator stalk, the contacts there usually cause problems. Or the socket connector, connecting the indicator stalk to the steering column wiring loom.
I've added my VIN to my signature.
